16 ounce sample on tap at the brewery. Lightly funky lacto in the nose, but there are also some underlying sweeter chocolate notes, too. This is not as funky as I would expect. It’s not like Jolly Pumpkin or anything like that. Moderately hazy dark amber body with a medium off-yellowish head. Tart and funkly lacto start. Pretty metallic and a little sour, too. The middle becomes more sweet with chewy wheat character. Finishes with chocolate roastiness and some fruity yeast esters. I’m not sure if I like the way the lacto interacts with the chocolate flavors in this beer. It is a good experiment, but I think Sudwerk has beers in their portfolio that would probably be more amenable to souring.
