This limited batch of Doppel Bock was aged in hand-selected Kentucky bourbon barrels. The brewers allowed the beer to hibernate until it was time to uncage the beastly blend of flavors including vanilla, coconut, hints of bourbon, chocolate, toffee, and the signature, velvet smooth finish of the Doppel. Best enjoyed after dark.

Pours mahogany with tan head. The add-ons has caramel, berries, light sourness, and bit of toffee. It has a medium body with fizzy carbonation. The taste has the aroma notes with more weird fruity sourness. Something seems infected here.

The aroma is a light sticky roast. Looks like a dark cup of cola. Nice woody mellow medium body flavors are there but a bit mute.

Pour is a dark cola brown with a small tan head. Aroma is bourbon barrel notes but also a odd vinegar. Flavor is a thin bourbon no real malt feel and again I get a big sour vinegar. I guess this bottle got infected along the way. I see what the brewer was trying to do but the vinegar sourness takes that all away.

22oz bottle pours a muddy brown with some tan head. Nose has stale malt, some wood pulp, some blood orange. Flavor has raisins, orange peel, tart yogurt, wood pulp. Tart finish.

[2/2/16] Draught at Barrel Head Brewhouse in San Francisco. Dark brown. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruits, alcohol. Sweet malt flavor with caramel, vanilla, booziness. Medium-bodied.

On tap @ Sudwerk Dock Store. Mahogany colored beer with a small khaki head. There’s a really nice bourbon and vanilla aroma to it, maybe some maple as well. Milk chocolate sweetness is noticeable, as are some toasted nuts. Lots of dark fruits, too. Flavor and mouthfeel are a touch thin and watery, unfortunately. But, the same sort of characteristics are there as exist on the aroma. Not bad.

A nice doppelbock, but smells better then it tastes. Pours a beautiful deep red with a tan head. Smells great, of cheese, vanilla and caramel. Taste is quite malty, with more cheese and caramel, and a bit of a boring malty finish. Had in the bottle.

This was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat as once again we open the same beer. Great way to share a beer 1.500 miles apart. Poured near black with a tan head that fades very quickly leaving no lacing. Nose of of chocolate, toffee, and lots of bourbon. Medium plus body. Very smooth mouth feel. Flavor is complex with dark ripe fruit, maybe raisin, vanilla, some chocolate, and lots of other tantalizing flavors. Finish is generally on the sweet side with the bourbon hanging on. This was a sipper but very enjoyable and is a well crafted beer. Very much enjoyed.

Bomber from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Very dark brown with a big beige head that falls slowly. A delicious aroma of bourbon, toffee, and barrel. Lots of bourbon in the flavor, too. It is smoother than expected and that is a pleasant surprise. This is a sipper as it is a little hot and full bodied. Toffee is tasted along with something like fig pudding. Bitterness is non-existent. If I have a knock on this beer it is that I pretty much had it figured out within the first few ounces. It changed little with warming. But it was flavorful, smooth, and enjoyable. good stuff.

Brownish almost black pour from 22oz bottle from Blackwells. Drank at home. Thin layer of off white head. Whiskey, carmel, and cocoa aroma. Taste is boubon, vanilla, cocoa, carmel, and milky. A pretty big flavorful beer. Pretty tasty.
