COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sugar Pine is a robust American porter flavored with organic cacao nibs and Madagascar vanilla beans. Chocolate and roasted malts are the backbone of this beer and compliment the vanilla and cocoa flavors perfectly. Our porter captures the essence of a dark craft beer you’ll love to enjoy by a campfire or with dessert. Cheers!

Bomber from Vons in Bakersfield, CA. Very dark brown body with a bubbly and quickly dissipating tan head. Makes a fizzy sound like a soda when being poured and the carbonation in the body is like that too which isn’t good and probably contributes to the head disappearing. Dark chocolate and coffee aromas that follow into the taste along with a cola flavor. There’s some good roasted malt flavor and dryness along with cocoa. There’s some sweetness here that balances out the dryness. Finishes with a lasting cocoa flavor and light bitterness on the tongue. Not a bad beer, but it would benefit from lighter carbonation and a bit more body.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a large wine glass. Taking a look, the head is about 2 fingers, blanketing fluff and colored dark tan. The color is dark brown, leaning toward black. Cocoa and subtle vanilla on the nose with roasted barley rounding it out. Flavors are cocoa, medium roast coffee, and vanilla.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Clear 9-oz. plastic cup From: Liquor King in Fresno, Calif. Price: $5.99 Purchased: March 31, 2016 Consumed: April 1, 2016 Misc.: No BOD on bottle Looking forward to this one. I’m a fan of porter’s, cocoa and vanilla. Picked this up with a few other Tioga-Sequoia beers and this one stood out of the lot except for maybe the Autumn Rush (BBA breakfast stout). Let’s go. Poured a very dark mahogany color (almost black) with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Average amount of sporadic lacing on the sides of the cup. Average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75) Smelled vanilla beans, cocoa, chocolate, marshmallow and light tobacco. Not a lot, but appealing. (Smell - 3.75) Taste follows the nose unfortunately, was hoping for better. Definitely artificial flavors. Vanilla, cocoa, sugary milk chocolate, hints of caramel and toffee, marshmallow and brown sugar. (Taste - 3.75) Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, chocolately finish. (Feel - 3.75) This was good, but I think I overrated it a tad at 3.75. Too much artificial noise. (Overall - 3.75) 3.75 85 B+

On tap @ Tioga-Sequoia Beer Garden. Dark brown in color with some off-white foam. Sweet vanilla and lots of dark cocoa on this one. Slight roasty bitterness along with some dark fruit and chocolate milk sweetness. Mild caramel as well. A lot lighter than expected, but still pretty nice. Maybe a bit sweet for the environment it’s served in (outdoor beer garden...in Fresno...in the summer), but not a bad beer.

Opaque brown with a foamy tan head. Creamy full body with medium carbonation.

Aroma: roasted malt, chalky carbonates, faint cacao and woody vanilla. Some faint hops and rubbery phenols.

Taste: sharp roasted malt bite, rich cacao, woody vanilla, and burnt finish. Had an off-putting phenolic character for the first sip or two that faded.

Nice flavors, and fairly balanced, but overall just too sharp and biting. Comes across like an imperial stout that is missing the residual sweetness of actually being a higher gravity brew. Gets more acrid and biting with each sip.
