Brewdog Shepherd Bush. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Amazing nose of rum and raisin and mint choc chip ice cream! Sublime! Palate is smooth with decent fine carbonation. Taste follows the nose closely adding a creamy dark malt. background. Trace of rum soaked dark fruits. Soft and semi dry finish. A bit of a stunner truth be told!
Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s Bush. Clearing up the last of the tap takeover. Aroma is intense sweet caramel, vanilla, rum and raisin cakey malts, booze, dried fruits, figs and raisin. Dark brown / opaque black coloured pour with a nice but fleeting dark tan head. Flavour is big and bold, rounded caramel, with tangy booze soaked fruits, rum and oak, little cakey malts. Pretty smooth for the abv. Palate is full and smooth on the tongue with tingling carbonation. Lingering wood and oak tannin on the tongue, lingering sharp tangy dried fruits. Really good. Keg at Brewdog. Black, foamy brown head doesn’t endure. Aroma is ginger, cough syrup, calpol. Mostly just ginger syrup concentrate. Some chocolate as it warms. Can smell this beer from several paces. Body is medium, soft carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is a ginger explosion, boozy, tangy spice almost suggesting chili. Sweet, boozy, unbalanced. Too sweet for my taste, but very interesting.

Keg at BD SB - London. Pours deep black-brown with a creamy tan head. Great aroma with hits of dark malts, rich dark fruits, cinnamon. Medium sweet flavor with more dark malts, rich toasted dark malts, some spices, further cinnamon, chocolate, hints of torched wood. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with more general dark malts, more cinnamon, cocoa, mild earthy bitterness. Some ripe fruits in the finish. Very tasty. Great depth, good drinkabilty. Outstanding. Keg at IMBC ’14. This is an inky black with virtually no head. Good rum presence in the aroma. Sticky, viscous feel on the tongue. Roasted malt smoothed over by rum notes. Minor hint of fruit at the edges. A little underwhelming based on my expectations but glad to see SW trying things like this. RichTheVillan (8640) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - OCT 13, 2013
Tap at IMBC; pitch black pour with tiny tan head, boozy aroma, sweet brown sugar taste with plain chocolate, sticky mouthfeel, excellent stuff. Scopey (16774) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 12, 2013
Keg at IMBC 2013. It pours opaque darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich roast, toast, chocolate, mint, chocolate matchmakers, dried fruit, creaminess and wood. The taste is rich roast, chocolate, toast, earth, creamy, after eight mints, rum, dark fruit, wood and mild acidity with a dry, toasty finish. Full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Brilliant balance and great depth. Utterly drinkable. Bravo SWB! Beersiveknown (5324) - NORTHERN IRELAND - OCT 6, 2013

Pow! The rich molasses rum on the nose of this beer is fantastic. Touch of lime redolent of navy grogg cocktail. Rich, thick and warming, chocolate, citrus, molasses, rum of course, ginger this beer is a cocktail in itself! Impenetrable black as the night and no head of course.
