November 29, 2013 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs & mabel - 330ml bottle. Motor oil black pour with a decent creamy light brown head. Musty dry roast aroma, dried oak, some alcohol, hints of overripe prune, sour coffee, very herbal/minty (9-). Taste the same, more oak, almost cedar, more alcohol and roast, some baker’s chocolate ... the specific barrel never really intrudes, only light scotch character. Slick, solid body, mild carbonation - long, bitter, dry almost boozy finish - loved this one. VsXsV (4572) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 2, 2013

Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of green pepper, red berries and coffee. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Great beer, bit spicy. fiulijn (21506) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 4, 2013

Black color with giant brownish creamy head. The aroma is initially coffeish, then hints of cream, cold ember, fireplace, some alcohol, spicy, herbal (mint and basil), late hint of cheese; pungent overall; original.
It’s full bodied, yet the mouthfeel is quite lean, and smooth; the flavor of roasted malt and chocolate is very rich, with minimal residual sweetness, maybe some ashes too, more evident in the final; strong expected bitterness level, with hidden hop resins; the final is more roasty, still smooth, with a touch of liquorice, and a bit yeasty; alcohol warmth.
Excellent modern example; the whiskey is not evident.
Tasted side to side with the Caol Ila, this one is more vibrant and richer.

Off keg at port street beer house Manchester. One of my favourite beers of all time. Massive sweet chocolate and coffee. A sort of mousse like texture to it. Just incredible.
