Summit Extra Pale Ale is not a beer brewed only for beer snobs. Just the opposite. It’s a beer for everyone to enjoy: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, sales people, clerks, teachers, lawyers, doctors, even other brewers. Its light bronze color and distinctly hoppy flavor have made it a favorite in St. Paul, Minneapolis and the rest of the Upper Midwest ever since we first brewed it back in 1986.

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2017 Drank this one out of a cab so didn’t get a lot of aroma. Nice and bitter piney flavour though. Lots of taste for a lower abv beer

Draft at Maynards in Rogers, MN. Pours a light amber, wispy white head. Aroma of grain, light florals. Crisp and fresh on the tongue, caramel, lightly toasted malts. Not bad but nothing distinguishing about it.

12 oz single bottle from Hy Vee Wine & Spirits - Council Bluffs (Madison Ave). Golden amber appearance with slight haze, a white head and light lacing. Aroma of bitter hops, toasted malt, biscuit, light pine and a hint of citrus. Similar flavor, adding mild hop bitterness (earthy) and a light grainy sweetness. Medium to light body with a balanced finish. A smooth, easy drinker overall.

On draft at Cowboy Jack’s at the Mall of America in Minneapolis. The pour is a clear coppery gold with a thick white head and a good soapy lace as it falls. The aroma is a little metallic, but nicely hoppy and well balanced. It’s got a bit of a sweet malt to it that isn’t too bad. The flavor is a little different there is more hop and a bitterness to it in front of the metallic malt and a soft sweet lead in. The bitterness and sharp hop on the finish really saves it. It’s not bad. The mouth feel is light and crisp with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly bitter hop before the sweet malt comes through. Not too bad.

12oz bottle. 4/21/17 best by date. Appearance: Deep golden with a touch of orange, hazy, and a moderate thick off white head and nice lacing. Aroma: Grainy, toasted bread, with an orange rind citrus hop note and a bit of resin. Taste: Grainy, toasted bread, and a touch of caramel maltiness. Moderately strong bitterness brings some grapefruit and herbal notes. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Finish: very dry with some sticky hop resin on the finish. Bitterness really stands out and lingers here. Overall: A nice, easy drinking pale ale. Has the malt character of an English pale ale, but the hop character of an APA. Has the malt backbone to balance the aggressive hopping, but finishes with a strong lingering bitterness.

Much better than summits Octoberfest style wise, good flavor, crisp and clean with a nice light-ish carbonation. Tasty medium bitterness, but not coming from the alcohol which is good.

From the tap at 8th Street Grill, Minneapolis. Pours light copper, worth fine white foam. Aroma is moderately intense with low persistence. Reminds a little of hazelnut, worth some strange feeling of oxidation. Body is light, with some final stickiness and very light astringency. Taste has balanced sweetness and bitterness, with the second dominating on the final.
