COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

Bottle, courtesy of Wellestone. At St. Paul Saints Midway Stadium parking lot. Hops in the nose. Amber body and huge white foamy head. Drinking this out of a semi-transparent plastic cup. The first time I had this I thought it was in discernible from the EPA, but its clearly different, and vastly superior.

Draft sample. Clear gold in colour with medium carbonation. Concentrated aromas of orange, pink and white grapefruit, something vaguely tropical, and a hint of pale malt. Flavors are of crispy pale malt, and a whole lot of C-hops, and exotic spice. Light bodied for the style, but very clean with a bitterness that is both hoppy and mineral like. Not for fans of really dank or pine sappy IPAs, but fans of cleaner and super drinkable ones should love this.

Clear golden amber white head. Citrus zest, light floral fruit, faint pine and caramel. Moderate pine and citrus flavor with trailing bitterness. Little malt coming through. Medium crisp palate. Crazy drinkable, but could be beefed up in the aroma quite a bit and flavor to a lesser extent. Definitely above average, but could be great.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2013 Crisp, floral, hoppy. A bit of citrus, pine, and earthiness. Very bitter, but balanced. This is a fantastic IPA.

Bottle shared. Poured a medium orange color with eggshell head. Nice lacing on the glass, medium malt nose with slight hints of caramel and tropical fruits, the flavor holds true to the aroma. Nice mslt flavor matched evenly with the hops. Nice tropical burst of hops. Mild bitterness on the end. Overall pretty good offering from summit.

Bottle to snifter. Pours bright amber with a large sudsy white head that dissipates to a soapy film a some spotty lacing. Aroma is floral spruce and grapefruit with grassy malt mixed all together. Taste is piny bitterness and clean with a malty backbone. Palate is clean and bright with a chalky dry finish. A good step above there standard IPA! Will be waiting for 12 packs of this stuff!

Transfer from BA review on 3-19-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance –The beer is served a lightly hazed golden yellow color with a one finger white head that fades relatively quickly. Upon fading there is a decent level of lace left on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of some sweet caramel and orange as well as a bready malt and a strong hop aroma of a red grapefruit and some lighter pine. Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor upfront with flavors of some orange mixed within. Upfront there is also a moderate grapefruit hop grapefruit taste. The grapefruit starts out of medium strength growing stronger and more bitter as the taste advances. While the grapefruit grows stronger, a caramel flavor takes the place of the orange that is present upfront with the orange again joining the caramel at the end. At the end of the taste, the grapefruit which is now quite bitter, mixed with a light piney taste as well as the lighter sweet flavors of citrus and caramel to leave a quite long lingering bitter grapefruit taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is rather average. Both are rather good for keeping it on the very drinkable side, but still showcasing some of the nice bitter hop flavors of the brew. Overall – A pretty nice more bitter lingering IPA. If you are looking for an affordable and bitter grapefruit citrus heavy beer that leaves its mark on your tongue then this is a good choice.

Pours medium gold with a 2 finger, creamy, slightly chunky off white head that has great retention and leaves nice thick rings of lacing. Aroma is huge on citrus, mango heavy tropical fruit, stone fruit, floral and spicy hops, some caramel, toast, mineral notes and biscuity malts in there, but the fresh hop aromas really take the front seat. Tastes similarly, but a little more balanced. Caramel, toast, mineral notes and quite a bit more biscuit than I expected along with citrus and a little sweet stone fruit up front, folowed by lots more citrus, tropical fruit, a little pine and a decent amount of dank weed. the finish turns a little more spicy, but the complexities of the hop blend hold on to create a nice citrus and tropical fruit, lightly bitter aftertaste. Light to medium bodied with a light to medium, blanketing carbonation, which suits the beer very well. This is a very good IPA, the hop profile is great.

12oz bottle pours a bright golden/orange with a large white head. Aroma of resinous hops, lots of tropical fruits and citrus. Taste has a nice well rounded hop bitterness with sweet fruits. A little light on the flavor altogether but still really nice, clean and refreshing.
