3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I have liked this unchained release the least out of all of them so far. It just seemed to be missing something and the taste was just off a bit.
Doesn’t really compare with Duvel or Piraat or the like, but on its on, this is a pretty good beer, especially for summit. Pours golden, white head. Crisp mouthfeel with the flavor of hay, pepper, alcohol, and a light fruitiness. bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Belgian Tulip.
Appearance: Clear golden straw with thin white head and very minor lacing. Certainly does not have the billowing head Duvel does despite seemingly using the exact same ingredients.
Aroma: Very dry with lots of Saaz. Notes of hay, grass, apple and citrus with barely perceptible clove.
Taste: Sweet apple and straw like malts with a very dry counterbalance from the spicy, peppery hops and very light yeasty clove presence. Tastes like a boozy Maibock with just a trace of Belgian yeast.
Palate: Moderately high carbonation, medium body (a little too heavy for a Belgian Golden Ale), with a finish that is too cloying.
Overall: For a Duvel clone, it is far short of the mark. Even for a Belgian Strong Pale Ale overall, it is just decent. First Unchained Series beer to not impress me. nuplastikk (6373) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 19, 2011
Draft at Dexters. Filtered golden-tan. Thin, lacy white head. Herbal laced Belgian Golden Ale aroma, shows some strength and depth. Some chamomile, sage type flavors, with a thick golden malt backbone. Rather respectably true to style, with some herbal herbal richness. Peppery, doughy, yeasty. Pretty well executed. Pours clear yellow/golden with a average sized white head. Aroma is fairly weak with notes of sweet honey, grass, straw, and light fruit. Flavor is of toast, honey, light floral notes, with alcohol and spice in the finish.

Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured transparent bright golden with fine sediment suspended in there. That aroma picked up sweet honey and lesser dark banana with black pepper and alcohol around.. kind of messy. The flavor found more honey plus pale malt at the sweet core.. lots of Belgian-inspired yeast and prickly alcohol around.. hot, spicy finish that filled the nostrils. Medium-bodied and slow through the palate.. filling coronation.. too tacky and syrupy on the finish. OK overall. Ratman197 (15121) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - MAR 10, 2011
Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of straw, pineapple, light yeast and a hint of spice. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of straw, pear, light banana and a hint of spice with a smooth lingering fruity finish. Nsanders (1156) - St Paul, Minnesota, USA - NOV 15, 2010
Golden color with high clarity. There is a quickly fading head with large bubbles. It has a sort of sweet, honey aroma. It tastes of sweet malts and alcohol, very clean and refreshing flavor. It has a lively mouthfeel. This is the best unchained so far. islay (2867) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 25, 2010
12 oz. bottle, consumed on 10-22-10. Dry aroma features champagne, white grape juice, and Golden Delicious apple scents. Pours a sparkling, effervescent, clear gold to light brass. Small amount of nearly white to light beige head. Fruity flavor with dry finish. Alcohol noticeable. Herbs, white grape juice, and candy sugar. Borders on cloying. Light to medium body – quite light for a beer of this alcohol content. Easy to drink. Fizzy in the palate. WisconsinBeer (716) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - OCT 1, 2010
Pours a clear pale yellow color. Flavor is subtle, bready malts, banana, orange peel, ripe fruit, yeasty esters. Medium bodied. Finish is crisp and slightly peppery. Girlfriend didn’t like this one, I thought it came out quite well.
