COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The fifth beer in the Unchained Series will be from brewer Nate Siats and is an Imperial Pumpkin Porter. Nate is a big fan of pumpkins and wants to do this up right, starting with where the pumpkins come from. The small, local, organic farm that is providing the pumpkins just so happens to be owned by Charles Jones, one of the strong fellas who work on our keg line! Nates desired flavor profile in his own words- A dark, chocolaty, full bodied beer with a slight bitter after taste. Evenly spiced with a hint of pumpkin, you would think you were sitting down for thanksgiving dessert. Perfect for a cool, fall afternoon.

Tasted on 4/6/11 from a 12oz bottle obtained as an extra in a trade, batch 05. Pours very thick opaque black with a thin tan head that recedes to some very thin lacing and a nice collar. The nose is darkly roasted malt with dark chocolate, coffee, and spiced pumpkin nicely integrated. The flavor is lightly sweet with chocolate syrup up front, moving to the more roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and spice pumpkin flavors, and a dry finish. The body is full with very lively carbonation and a long dark chocolate and spiced pumpkin finish.

On tap. Black body with a small tan head. Strong aroma of roast, smoke, pumpkin, spices and a hint of coffee. The flavor is similar, lots going on in this. Very smooth texture with a nice long finish. De-e-ecent!

SLight spices on the nose, I get cinnamon, pepper, a touch of clove. Underneath the spice is a fair amount of roasted dark malts and light chocolatey notes as well. Pours dark brown, more or less black. Short lived head and lace. The flavor is roasty and a little charred, light chocolate sweetness and moderate spice in the form of cinnamon, clove, and pepper. Dry patent malt aftertaste lingers, dry mouthfeel.

M&Jsamplefest: Unusual spices in the aroma, yet typically porter. I could not detect any pumpkin in this. Overall, a decent but fairly average porter.

This 12 oz bottle was courtesy of Strykzone, and poured black with a robust tan head and thick lacing rings. Nose of roasted malt and hint of the pumpkin. Very bold body and a creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is rich for a porter with lots of chocolate, coffee and again the light pumpkin. The finish is bitter and there is a touch of the alcohol. Very good.

Bottle:   Nearly black, moderate frothy dark beige head, a few clumps of lacing.   Strong roasted malt nose, subtle dark chocolate and nutmeg.   Fairly roasty on the tongue, a little bit of lactose, soft hop, a dash of nutmeg and allspice.   Not as spicy as I thought it was going to be.   This one is much more of a Porter than a Pumpkin Ale, which is okay.   Guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Midnight Suns version.   Porter fist, pumpkin second.   Moderate sweetness, lingering roastiness.   Its growing on me.   As it warms the spices come out a bit more.   Thanks Bob!

Bottle: Very dark brown pour with an ample tan head. Aroma is lightly spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon and a heavy roasted malt backer. Tastes of well-roasted malts, a light chocolate sweetness, faint bitters, and the complimentary pupmkin pie spices. Nutmeg, nothing else really stands out. Smooth and creamy. The roasty presence blends very well with the bittersweet and spicey elements. Solid offering.
