COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To celebrate his upcoming nuptials, Summit brewer Sam Doniach created Honeymoon SaisonBatch 07 in the Summit Unchained Series. Its inspired by French saison styles which were traditional farmhouse ales brewed to quench workers on long, hot days. Sams creation has a refreshing citrus and floral character with hints of apple, pear and spicy, peppery notes. Its brewed with a touch of Minnesota honey as a kettle addition and unfiltered for a smooth, clean finish.

Spicy and yeasty in the aroma, the appearance is bronze-gold. The flavor has a slightly muted spiciness to it, probably due to the honey. Not bad, could do without the added honey, it made a slight sweetness and syrup inflection i didnt care for.

My Bottom Line :
This Saisons spicy hop bite, doughy yeast and tropical fruitiness evolve in a comfortable mouthfeel yet cant seem to gel with a roaming tartness.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A pillowy head of foam dwindles into the cloudy beige.
-Tartness and an unbalanced spicy hop bitterness tend to clash in the aftertaste.
-Malt flavors are quite coarse, a bit like some Frontenac malts in Quebec.
-Mild banana esters undermine citrusy edges.
-This has a lot of flavor, but the whole is not as united as it could be.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2011 Pours a honey gold color with quick diminishing white head. Aroma is fruity & yeasty. Taste is quite complex and seems a little messy...I detect apple, honey, rye, clove and vanilla bean. You can also taste alcohol, whiskey and some astingentness. The honey lends a dry palate. It was a valid attempt; not great but its not terrible. Re-Rate: This is growing on me, its a beer that Id buy again.

Bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a white foamy head that fades to a thin film. Aroma has a honey tobacco scent with pepper as well. Taste is bready and herbal with a little funk. Palate is thin and chaulky that finishes dry.

12 oz. bottle. A cloud of haze floats freely. Golden orange with a white head that is one finger. Belgian yeast and candi sugar with light spices are smelled. The flavor is funky and sour. Like the aroma, it offers some light spices that include pepper. There is some light barnyard funk to it but only a bit. This is generally sour and the honey is not tasted. This is not a great Saison.

Pours clear yellow with white head, aroma has notes of floral, pear, hints of spice. Taste is some weird muddled floral and biscuit notes, some slight spice, dry fruit notes, finishing fairly dry but with a bit of excess carbonic acid and a slight metallic finish.

The 12 bottle was courtesy of strykzone. Poured a cloudy orange with a white head. Nose of candy and yeast. Medium body. OK mouthfeel but a bit acrid. Flavor is barnyard but mild with some sourness in the finish. This is a bit of a muddle for the style, but was drinkable and refreshing in spite of all the comments above.

Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a clear golden pale colored brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a film top and white ring. Aroma of golden grain malt, floral hops, a hint of vanilla, white pepper and apple. Taste is medium bodied, dry golden grain malt, some bitter yeast, and grassy hops. Finish is semi-dry with a saison yeast aftertaste with some spearmint, honey and grassy hop flavor, followed by a lingering white pepper flavor. A little bit multi-directional but still has a saison profile.

Pours deep yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of faint belgian yeast, grass, lemon, biscuit malt. Taste is the same with a touch of honey. Meh
