COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Medium bodied ale with a pronounced citrus/passion fruit/mango aroma, slight astringent/burnt character from the black malt. Think black colored hoppy ale.

Dark brown color with a tall, lasting tan head. Hops certainly got my attention then I held the glass to my nose. Fresh pine and citrus scents abound. Just a hint of roasted malt and dark chocolate in the background. Sweet start, with dark chocolate and roasted malt. Gains some tarry, scorched malt towards the finish. Linger regains some of the citric hops and bitterness. An interesting ride. 9/11

A deep dark brown ale with a thick frothy. lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, light coffee, nice. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with light peated notes, grassy hops, light mineral notes, light licorice, still solid after 2 years.

12oz bottle, found in the cooler at Party Town. Code on the bottle reads 13011125. Mostly clear very dark brown color. Pours with an entirely excessive amount of head. A third of the bottle quickly generates enough airy bubbly head to fill a 16oz glass. Bitter, spicy roast malts, little burnt tasting. Musty, malty toasty aroma, no fruit flavors left in this. Awful astringent medicinal bitter taste in the finish. Spicy, herbal hop and some cloying sweet malt. Aftertaste is so bad it makes my mouth water and taste buds go numb. Medium body. Soft, stronger carbonation. Some licorice in the finish. Drain pour... drinking pretty awful right now. If you see this, skip it. Far past it’s prime.

Either un-retired or a vintage keg. It is good htough. Nice bitterness, flavors mesh well.

Pours a deep brown/black color with a tall, bubbly, tan head. Aroma of hefty roasted malts hits the nose first with some mild sweet citrus later in the nose. Flavor starts off with an astringent roasted kick, fading into a light grapefruit and malty finish. Body is modest density with low carbonation lending to a smooth feeling. Overall a good offering. Would love to try it fresh on tap as I think the hoppy presence would come through a lot more prevalent.

The aroma is very chocolaty with mixed grains, coffee, and strong hops. The appearance is dark brown with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter bite. The palate is thin. Overall a nicely made black ipa but just to bitter for me.

Poured into a pint glass. Nice foam that slowly settles to a nice 1/4 inch that lasts throughout. Dark brown molasses color. The smell is different than I expected. The hop aroma is sort of fruity citrus and pine. Slight malt too. The taste is dark wheat and malt with the unique hop coming through. Come chocolate and mild bitterness. Nice but the unique hop gives it a different taste. Sort of unexpected. Generally a good beer. Being a black ale with unique hops make it difficult to compare. I liked it will probably get more.

Aroma is piney hops, a hint of dark malts and a bready character. The flavor is tropical fruit/citrus, a hint of chocolate and a mildly tart finish. Decent enough.

esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 20, 2012
Very dark brown with a medium tan had and foamy lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malts, peaty notes, caramel, mild citrus and light chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, nuts, toffee, mild citrus with a mild bitter finish that has some off-flavors in it.

12oz bottle pours black with a brown head. Aromas of light smoked malts hop resin and some pine. Flavor is bitter and very slightly smoked. Body is medium with a dry finish
