Pours black at a glance, deep red upon closer inspection, nice light brown head. Aroma is weed and coffee. Taste is rich citrusy hops balanced by just enough "black" character. Body is medium, average carbonation, dry citrusy/roasty finish. Overall, a pleasant surprise, very good. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 23, 2012
bottle... subpar to average black ipa, not worth tracking down, chalky, thin, too bitter no roast. Leafs93 (2343) - Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 19, 2012
Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, roasty and some citrus. Taste is roasty bitters with a sweet finish. Lighter then expected mouthfeel. FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 18, 2012
12oz bottle. Pours nearly black with a small light beige head. Aroma is aggressively hopped, some citrus but much piney herbal notes. A bit of a crisp fruity, slight roast and cocoa character but mostly hoppy. Flavor starts hoppy tons of pine some citrus but really just herbal and earthy. Finally some notes of roast and chocolate in the finish. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Frank (4261) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 18, 2012
This is something of a really hoppy porter or maybe a brown ale. It is a transparent red-brown color w/ a small head of fine bubbles and tenacious lacing. The nose is nice and hoppy w/ lemon and citrus being the predominant aroma along w/ a bit of melon and a rich coffee note from the roasted grain. Unfortunately, the roasted grain expresses itself more as an ashy bitterness once the beer is tasted. It doesn’t ruin it but this just doesn’t taste as nice as it smells. Texture is medium bodied w/ prickly carbonation. Not a bad beer overall but one w/ some flaws.

12oz bottle poured into glass. Dark black color with no head. Nice hop presence in the aroma. Burnt malt in the flavor. Not a whole lot of fruit character to speak of, at least that’s what I gathered. Still very good and tasty. islay (3125) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 9, 2012
12 oz. bottle. The second from a six-pack that I have consumed. Strong, sharp, tart, complex aroma features chocolate muffin, dark chocolate, rich caramel, raspberry, and salt scents. Pours an apparently clear dark brown with a ruby hue. Large amount of uneven taupe head. Produces good, somewhat extensive lacing. Hoppy taste features coffee with milk and cranberry juice flavors. I alternate between enthusiasm and indifference sip by sip. Light, dull aftertaste. Moderate body. Silky and not particularly lively in the palate. Decent but forgettable and uneven overall. bseribeer (128) - Illinois, USA - JAN 8, 2012
Superb outing from Summit. Strong aroma of hops. Pours a dark, dark brown, with a foamy tan head. Taste is of hops, very similar to an IPA. Somewhat of a bittersweet finish. Medium body on the palate with decent carbonation on the tongue. Overall, an easy drinking black ale from Summit. Would definitely drink again. GJF (1520) - Mount Vernon, Iowa, USA - JAN 2, 2012
Another really nice unchained series from Summit. Pours completely black with a nice thick head and plenty of lacing. Sweetish aroma. Flavor is nicely roasted, a bit of smoke undertones. Finishes medium dry with a long lingering roast and slight bitterness. Well done. Travlr (26431) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 31, 2011
Bottle courtesy of nuplastikk, thank you! Black, bright tan head, delicate lacing. Aroma of intense pine, charcoal, burnt cocoa. Taste is bitter coffee, pine resin, dark chocolate. Very nice.
