When it came time for brewer Mike Lundell to brew his newest Unchained Series beer, he asked himself: “What does the beer world need most right now?” The answer: “Another IPA!” No, seriously, that is the beer’s name – Another IPA. An English-style IPA featuring Golden Promise malt and Target hops, expect herbal hop notes, nutty malt character and a fruity nose. Why order just another IPA when you can get Another IPA! Malts: Golden Promise. Hops: Target.

To add to the Unchained nature of this beer, Mike brewed two batches of Another IPA with slightly different malt bills. The first batch features Golden Promise malt from Simpsons Malt in the UK. This malt has been kilned to our specifications, resulting in a slightly darker (deep bronze) IPA with a fuller body. This brew will have an “Enjoy By Date” of 12/13/13 on the bottles. The second brew of Unchained 13 features a standard-kilned Golden Promise malt from Thomas Fawcett & Sons UK maltsters. Bottles will include an “Enjoy By Date” of 12/27/13. This beer will be a bit lighter in body and color (dark gold).

On tap, Barrio St Paul release day. Deep orange, lively carbonation. Lingering foamy head. So Summit has too many IPA’s, but I like this one. It’s light bodied but has a nice chewy malt profile with some juicy fruit hops in the background. Easy drinking, lucky 13 is a winner.

Draft at GBBF 2013, day 4 - London. Pours clear gold with a bubbly topping. The nose holds dry and moderately grainy pale malts, bread, dry citrus. Light sweet flavor, with some dry tangerine, some biscuits, mellow bitter straw. Light in body with fine carbonation; good condition. Nicely balanced in the finish, with a bit more biscuity pale malts, semi-dry tangerine. A nice IPA overall.

Pour on tap at All Pints North, hazy golden orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of orange peel, grain, some grapefruit into a bit of grass, touch of biscuit, bready, slight spice notes. Taste was a mix of bread, biscuit, grainy notes, some grass into orange, citrus, slight spice, finishing bitter.

[ As Summit Unchained 13 Another IPA ].
Clear medium yellow orange color with a small to average, frothy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, grain, straw, moderate hoppy, grass - dusty grass. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, grain. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130816]

Golden murky body with limited head. Focused on mediocrity; aroma was relatively mild and citrus flavors overwhelmed the fresh hoppy taste I was hoping for. Very potable, but not overly impressive.

Tap at Summit brewery. Pours a pale amber with small head. Nose and taste is a lot of grass and hay.

jandd1983 (4577) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - MAR 3, 2014
It poured a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of sweet citrus hops, grapefruits, tangerines, mangos and some caramel/pale malts. The taste was a bitter piney resin taste with some citrus hops, pale malts barley and some grassiness; very earthy tasting. Not bad.

DocLock (11024) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2014
Shared bottle. Pours dark straw with off-white head. Nose is hopcitrus, with some nobel hops in the flavor, pale malt, and a smooth finish.

esjaygee (3906) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 5, 2014
Malt bill #2. Speckled and hazed golden yellow with a quickly fading medium white crown. Aroma is soapy and herbal with noble hops and mild nutty notes. Taste is noble and gritty with caramel, corn stalk and a moderate bitter finish in a thin body. Come to think of it, I will have another IPA.

MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 29, 2013
Golden to dark golden pour with a small bubbled slightly dense white head. English hops aroma and a very earthy mineral note a big whif yields something that I can almost call a light vomit or soap... really it’s something funky, but not good.. fortunately not really noticeable. The taste is a light toffee under a classic english hop, very earthy a little soapy. OK, but not something I’ll order again.

zeke626 (460) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 24, 2013
Bottle, second brew. Pours a rather ugly cloudy yellow-orange body with an off-white head. Aroma of straw, bread, grass, and faint citrus. Taste is mainly grassy hops with some citrus peel. Bitter finish.
