COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewer Gabe Smoley’s Unchained 21: Us & Them is a truly unique craft beer exploration. Gabe has deconstructed the mash of Summit’s popular Sága IPA recipe into two unique “threads” to forge two distinct beers: a hoppy and intense American IPA and a complex, but subtle Session IPA. This unique brewing experience explores the two extreme flavor profiles and drinking differences you can discover in one package from one, original beer recipe. Which beer do you think is “Us” and which beer is “Them”? Which brew defines you? Offered in 6 packs that include three bottles of each brew. Also available on draught.

Mostly clear golden in color with a whitish slightly orange head that dissipates rapidly lacing the glass. Citrus aroma including orange and grapefruit as well as some grassy notes. Bitter hoppy taste with some fruitiness (grapefruit and orange) is balanced by light malty undertones. Light-medium mouthfeel with a lingering slightly burning pine aftertaste. Slightly higher alcohol content not immediately noticeable. Solid American IPA.

Bottle - nice orange hue with a thick head. Lots of orange hops. Medium body and medium bitter but very smooth all the way through. I would definitely have another one of this.

355ml bottle sadly right near its bb. It is jsut old and oxidized, herbal hops, more malt presence.

Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a clear golden pale yellow brew with a thick off-white head that has some good retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, some graham cracker, honey and orange zest. Taste is medium bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of tropical fruit, a hint of tangerine, caramel malt and a touch of spice. Finish has a sharp bitterness followed by a lingering mild bitterness with caramel malt and tangerine flavors.

Pours a cloudy amber color. About two fingers white head. Good retention, good lacing.

Aroma is toffee and resin. Some sort of fruit.

Taste is hop spicy. No, really it is. Combine that with a little alcohol burn, and you’ve got...this. It’s not so much bitter, it spicy. But at the same time, it’s also juicy and sweet.

Mouthfeel is full bodied. Sticky and astringent. Oily and sticky.<o>Overall, I really like this. Even though it seems to go too far with...everything. It’s quite good. I absolutely recommend this one. I hope I can find more!

Bottle from Capones. Hazy straw pour with off-white head. Resiny and hoppy nose, with tropical fruit flavor in the taste, smooth finish.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle with a best by date of 08/2016. Aroma has a grain forward character with some moderate cracker malt and grain notes. Some light honey and caramel notes. Moderate citrus notes with tangerine and mandarin. Some lighter resin. Pours a hazy, dull copper orange with a medium sized, white head that recedes to a thin film that lingers thicker on the edges. Flavor has a light sweetness with some cracker and grain notes. A touch of honey. Medium bitterness. Medium light hop notes with orange, mandarin and tangerine. A light stone fruit note. Hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer. Hops are pretty mellow though and the malt character seems a bit strong. A touch of a weird metallic finish.

Bottle. Bright gold color, head that fades quickly but leaves a lacing on the glass. Big citrus-hop aroma. Flavor is bitter, but has grapefruit and some orange. Fresh hop flavor, and full palate. I expected another ipa like any other but this is the best new IPA I have tried in a long time. it is considerably better than the 2nd Thread pale ale. Aftertaste is bitter, and I feel a light hop burn. A tropical ipa that is better than Sierra Nevada.

12oz bottle. A pretty respectable IPA, what you wish their regular offerings would taste like. Unfiltered greyed-orange body, thick. Glass lacing thin white head. Kind of drinks like a bigger, yeastier session IPA, there isn’t really a lot of depth of malt or hops. Refreshing, cool, crisp. Mellow for the ABV.

Clear golden color with lots of lacing. Perfume aroma, light pine. Moderate flavor, some gentle bitterness that comes and goes. Had a bit of a copper metallic finish by the end. Bottle.
