Pours a very dark amber with a ruby highlights. The thin wispy tan head quickly disappears. Boozy sherry like aroma with caramel, cherry, dried fruit, and toffee notes. Similar flavors with a bourbon finish. Medium body with a low level of carbonation. Smooth rich mouthfeel with a warming alcohol sensation. Very enjoyable English style barely wine. fonefan (49293) - VestJylland, DENMARK - SEP 5, 2012

Dark brown color, small beige head. Toffee (fudge) and vanilla in the nose, raisiny. Full-bodied. Lots of vanilla and fudge. Raisiny, dark fruity flavors. Just enough alcohol. Very delicious beer. Great!

Between amber and copper colour, small beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, raisins and some slight wooden notes. Flavour is bourbon, some hops, alcohol, raisins sweet malts. Nice barley wine "bottom" with some wooden notes as added. Pleasantly balanced.
Canned at PBF. Hazy amber/copper, minimal head. Strong vanilla/bourbon aroma. Mid sweet wtih full body and rouinded mouthfeel. Caramel supports the heavyn bourbon character. Warming finish where alcohol lies under the surface and bitterness is balanced.

FoBAB 11’ excellent brew here. The base beer is excellent and the barrel aging was done perfectly. Not overbearing just complimentary. deyholla (11598) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 20, 2011
Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Poured a near clear deep amber with a light brown yellowish head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a good amount of bourbon backed by sweet grains and toffee. Flavor had more toffee that had a nice amount of bourbon and a hint of underlying sweet grains. Sampled on tap at FoBAB 2011 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich roast brown, reddish copper edges, a huge cakey brownish head laces well. Aromas are touches of vanilla, oak, and cocoa, touches of sweet toffee and brown sugar, some gentle spice. Initial is rich and roast, lots of sweetness comes into play. Vanillan cocoa, toffee, and spice, gentle with some good barrel elements. Moving on with touches of heat and good ABV, barrel grows with some great elements, Touches of Belgian yeast dance in with spice and fruit. Finish is fruity and a touch tart, some good barrel and heat. Very nice. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 13, 2011
draft... after the GABF domination I was really looking forward to some Sun King one offs, the two I had didn’t impress though... one of my least favorite barleywines of the day, not that it was bad, just lower tier compared to others drdisque (838) - Illinois, USA - NOV 12, 2011
FoBAB 2011. Sweet. A little malty for a barley wine. Notes of dark fruit and fig flavors. Pleasant. Recommended.
