Can. Caramel malt and hay aroma. Medium brown color with nice head. Sweet chocolate caramel malt and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor. Nice - on the sweet side. JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Can shared by another patron at the Smuttynose tasting at Ale Wine & Spirits on 4/27/12. Clear amber pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, slight peat and alcohol. Malty flavor with caramel character and light hops in the finish. Was told this was a scotch ale and was underwhelmed. When I read that it was scottish, that made more sense. Not bad. Can from a friend. Pours deep brown with a frothy head. The nose is toffy and cocoa, no real hop notes to speak of. On tasting, quite chocolatey, rich and malty overall, Very clean, medium-low carbonation. Light bitterness. Pretty nice overall. Deep mahogany hue. Inviting nose. Malt forward with rich elements of toast, peat and toffee. Wholesomely sweet, but not cloying. Hops are earthy and herbal, delicate and balancing. Not overly exciting, but tasty and well made. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - DEC 13, 2011
