2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
500ml bottle. Pours a clear light gold, with a large but fading head, and very little lacing. The aroma is an odd mixture of caramel and some doughy notes, and is not altogether brilliant. There are some quite nice citrus hops to start with, but these fade into a somewhat insipid slightly sweet finish. It’s passable, but far from great. Stylistically, this seems to sit somewhere between an ale and a lager. I’m not sure if the beer’s problems are stylistic, though, or if it is just this example.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
1pt 0.9floz bottle. 5.3% ABV. Pours clear light yellow with white head, lacing the glass. Light floral and grassy hop aromas coupled with grainy malt and bread. Medium-light mouthfeel showcasing well balanced hop flavours and bitterness. Zesty bitterness accentuated by a medium-high carbonation. Medium-dry finish with a residual caramel sweetness and hop flavour lingering through. Very nice, flavoursome kolsch.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pale yellow with fizzy carbonation that fades quickly. Grainy aroma, thin crisp taste on the palate with some lingering spice. Cleaner and smoother than the American versions.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My first truly German Kolsch and I think I finally get the appeal. All of the American versions were so lame and this one is very, very refreshing.

On tap at Brauerie Sünner im Walfisch. Malty, fruity aroma. Nice taste. A bit sour. Quite pale. No lasting head.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Shocked the hell outta me seeing non-AB taps, sale of AB notwithstanding. Anyway, clear gold with a very nice, fizzy, white head. Bready malt nose, cereal and crisp floral and grass hop aromas. Bold (for a Kölsch) grassy hop flavors over mildly sweet bread. Palate is light, but rounded out well. Really liked this one - a really pleasant surprise in AB-land!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Thin, filtered looking orange-yellow. Respectable white head. Some brewery aroma, with a touch of lemon. Relatively straightforward stuff, light to medium bodied. Doughy mouthfeel, balanced out by a light hoppy spiciness. Bready, with a little bit of graininess inthe finish. Pleasant session beer, hyper-quaffable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Pale malty aroma with a grainy hint. The flavor has pale malts, a light sweetness and light earthy hops. Solid.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. It pours a sparkling, clear body, a bit pale golden, and topped by a big, dense, creamy white head. Weak, grainy nose with a fruity touch. Grainy and fruity flavor, pleasantly hopped, but quite uninteresting anyway. Medium body, dry. A decent one, nothing more. Guess it slakes the thirst quite well though. 100327
