UPDATED: MAY 13, 2017 ~This review was made some time ago via another application, and thus the specific details (beyond numerical scores) are no longer available~coffee, chocolate, black, frothy, tan foam, light sweetness, thin feel. Nice, chocolate/coffee smell, not overwhelming. Snappy roasted taste, quick burnt and bitter finish. Lighter than a stout; quite thin but personally that’s a plus for a beer in the Premium Malt’s line. Highly drinkable, best in the series. tomciccateri (1035) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - OCT 14, 2010
On draught dispenser machine at United Airlines lounge at Narita airport. Pours an opaque dark brown with think ran head and lasting lace. Subtle dark malt aroma when stil cold. Creamy mouthfeel. Even dry/sweet dark malt flavor balance. Slight dryness and very slight gritty texture hint toward cocoa over chocolate. Clean, interesting, very drinkable. martinrumsam (572) - BARNSTAPLE, Devon, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2012
On tap at TGI Tokyo . nice and dark with full tan head .nice malty aroma with a touch of chocolate . taste is toasted malts , touch of caramel and cocoa . it is not a stout though - a bit too watery for that but pleasant and drinkable . in fact it was an oasis in the desert of pale lagers on offer here . So we had several . Westkyoto77 (640) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 18, 2013
Can on the Shinkansen. Nice roasted malt nose, coffee crema, touch of chocolate. Body a tad thin, but there is creaminess and depth there. Still one of my favorite mainstream beers in Japan. Thisis12ptfont (1232) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - APR 11, 2014
Aroma is faint wheat, black malts, and barley. Appears black with a two finger foam head. Taste is crisp black lager malts, rich toffee, pronounced caramel, chocolate, cocoa, roasted sugar syrup. Overall, syrupy and sugary with dark malt roast. Good stuff.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2015 Burnt aroma with wheat. Very dark in color with some lacing. Dark malts, burnt toast, caramel, nuts and chocolate and syrup. Finish is dry but sweet. Very good beer and great in the winter. Beats all other dark beers in the 7-11 and Family mart and leaves you wanting more. GoufCustom (2256) - HONG KONG - FEB 12, 2015

355ml can bought at Sogo Fresh Mart in Causeway Way.
Clear opague black colour; Half finger head and soapy beige foam which fades in 40 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and barely notable slight carbonation; Quite fragrant aroma of dark malt, with strong roastyness, light black coffee, cream, caramel, strong toffee, Cola, very light chocolate, light sugar, faint lemon and light grass; Mid to light sweet taste of dark roasted malt, with roasted nuts, light smoke, strong toffee, caramel, black coffee, light toast, light cream, lime, bitter hops and pretty strong grass; Medium body. Slick and quite creamy palate; Mouth feel is full body dark malt with good nutty roast, strong sticky toffee and creaminess stand out. Fairly good black coffee and quite toasty, also moderate sweetness and backed with good hops. I like it!... Hoppiness is light lemon and fairly strong grass in nose. Lime and sharp grassy taste. Bitterness is moderate to strong, really complements the thick roasted malt and sweetness for a lasting, moderate astringent finish; Fairly dry after taste; Roasty, creamy and sweet bitter to mouth.
Comments: This is the Schwarz version of Premium Malt, so it’s richer and thicker than typical Euro Schwarz or Stouts. Yet, it’s really roasty, with sticky toffee nice sweetness and strong hops to state its case, and it’s a very convincing one. I really like it!
12 ounce can brought back from Nihon by the wife. Pours a pure black hue with a medium swirling cream colored head. A light nose of toast and some metal. A pleasant flavor; smooth toasted malts, chocolate, even a hint of fruit. Some metallic flavors. Nice.
