In Ventura, good things come from the South in the Summer. In this case, in the form of our big Double India Pale Ale featuring Hops from Australia and New Zealand and Patagonia Caramel malt from Chile. Double dry-hopping provides aroma to a dominant hop profile of citrus and gooseberries with just enough malt backbone to support the aggressive hopping. 19P 103 IBU 9 SRM

Hazy deep gold beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy and soft, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft and creamy sweet malts. Mild hop skunk. Floral orange blends well with bitterish marmalade. Punchy tangerine. Some hop spice. Smooth finish. Spicy orange linger. Nicely fruity hop.

Moderate haze, deep marigold hue. Nice frothy head. Aroma has a little diacetyl, lime, maybe cheesy hops. The flavor contains some of this too -- cheddar, sourdough, tangerine. Good cakelike malt sweetness somewhat balances strong lingering bitterness. A little rough.

What a difference a brewer makes! This is a surprisingly fruity IPA. Tons of it. Also a tad creamy with some significant kick of hops as well.

Sample at the taproom. The beer is a copper color with a medium off-white head that dissipates gradually. Sticky strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is hoppy with fruit and malt notes. Medium to full body with flavors of piney hops, fruit and grainy malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a resiny hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

[2/17/15] Draught at The Libertine Pub in Morro Bay. Clear deep golden. Aroma of piney and slightly fruity hops. Flavor has some sweetish malt, lots of piney hops and strong bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Pours a clear gold with a big head. Aroma is juicy citrucy hops and some caramel malts. Taste is a initial pop of caramel malt then the citrus hops take over. Its a pretty malty but juicy citrucy hop. Its pretty good but hard to nail down any other dipa characters besides the usual hops and malt. I will say it is well made but not very defined or memorable.

Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Fresh piney hops, sweet caramel malts, faint fruity notes, and a nice lingering bitterness. A throwback to the malts double IPAs from 5 years ago, but well executed.

Vintage: 2013 Appearance: Rich, Translucent Copper verging on amber; Fluffy, off-white head; Fast dissipating; Good Lace; Minimal Carbonation activity. Smell: Dank; Honey; Grapefruit; Orange Rind; Caramel Malts; Taste: Light Caramel; Honey; Citrus in back; Short finish lacks the nice lingering bitterness. Mouth-feel: Medium Carbonation; Slightly syrupyhoney like; medium body Overall: Really good malt-forward DIPA; Many will enjoy this beer, but its a little too syrupy and malty for me. The wonderful aroma is not held up by the taste
