COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sure were abrasive. We were abrasive long before we were Surly. If you visit the brewery you can still see remnants of the industrial manufacturing factory Omars parents ran for 35 years within those same 4 walls. Bandsaw blades, grinding wheels, and sanding discs came long before ales and lagers. But lets be honest, this is a lot more fun. Pale in color, this over-hopped, under-brewed Double IPA has almost twice the amount of hops & malt crammed in the can. Seasonal between March and April.

Even better than last year, which was excellent. As a hophead, This ranks up there with the best available. Only wish it was available year round.

Can: The aroma consists of pineapple, mango, peach, and light grapefruit. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a two finger orange tinged off-white head that leaves lots of spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts very fruity with lots of pineapple, peach, and mango. The finish has moderate grapefruit and light orange. Its medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall, an outstanding Double IPA that is dangerously drinkable for 9%.

Out of can. Pours a Golden copper color with a white foam head. The grapefruit and Citris along with the hops is outstanding and just knocks you over. Has very good balance of bitterness along with sweetness of carmel malts. One of my favorites.

Got this beer from a friend that went to visit the twin cities over the holidays. He hit a home run with this one. I dont know if its the cabin fever or the bordem on winter, but this double IPA get my blood pumping.

Can. Pours hazy gold/amber with thick, creamy white head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is heavy dank and citrus hops, straw, grassy notes, biscuit and cereal malts, and light fruit. Flavor is fresh dank hops forward (medium bitterness), citrus esters, lightly sweet malts, and grassy notes; fresh hoppy bitterness from start to finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

16 oz. can served in Surly Darkness snifter. Canned 12/20. Thanks to BA supercolter for the beer. Thanks Jeff! A: Pours a perfectly clear apricot color with a light yellowish head forming on the pour. S: Sugar covered grapefruit with some dank, resinous undertones. Piney bitterness with some pineapple notes as well. Some sweet cracker malts T: Sweet citrus and tropical fruit notes. Pineapple and grapefruit with a little orange jam. Some peach notes creep up as it warms. The dank hops peak through with some resinous bitterness. The malt backbone is slightly sweet with notes of saltine and white bread. M: Medium to light bodied with a semi sticky mouthfeel, but it drinks very easy. Medium-high carbonation level with a fruity and resinous finish. O: Another winner from Surly. So many hop complexities with the tropical fruit notes, citrus and resin. The malt is slightly sweet, but mostly in the periphery. Serving type: can

Surly DIPA. It uses warrior and citra hops. Pours a dark golden/golden orange color. With an aggressive pour I managed to get a nice two finger head that quickly dissipated. This was a clear beer until I poured all of it in the glass. Then it clouded up. There is a bit of carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass. The aroma is huge on this beer. Cat Piss smell. Musky dank smelling with citrusy grapefruit, orange zest and a hint of pine, there is a nice sweetness in the aroma as well. At the front of the palate you initially get quite a bit of bitterness with the dank musky coming through and a slap of grapefruit in the middle to back of palate. Finish is dry and slightly sweet with orange zest. Today is 12/18/12. This was canned on 11/30/12. I bought it on 12/1/12. Overall this is an amazing DIPA. The mouth feel is phenomenal. It is brewed with oats as well which lends a nice velvety mouthfeel.

Poured from a 16 ounce can from khoffman. Thanks! Pours a somewhat hazy, light copper color with a white head of foam. The aroma has tons of fruity citrus and herbal resins. Huge hop profile. Bitterness is right up front on this beer with a nice, balancing sweetness. Delicious beer. Thanks again Kyle!

16 oz can from a trade with portableparty. Pours slightly hazy burnt orange color with off white head. Aroma of grapefruit rind with a hint of caramel. Bitter grapefruit and resinous pine flavors with some other citrus fruits. Slightly sweet caramel also. Medium body with average carbonation and.a resinous mouthfeel. Excellent! Thanks Jeff.
