The weather may be brutally cold when A special strong beer, brewed specifically for an Amon Amarth, Enslaved and Skeletonwitch event at Mill City Nights. “The Surly production team is fueled by metal,” head brewer Todd Haug says, “so what better way to honor three of our favorite bands who have braved the winter to perform for Minnesota.” This brew takes its name from an Amon Amarth song title and will be poured first at the concert, and for a very limited time at the brewery’s Taproom. “Asator, Surly Viking IPA, is a beer fit for battle, fermented on oak with a ruddy brown color,” Haug says The ale was brewed with peated, brown and crystal malts to create a shield wall of malt flavors, only to be hacked apart by a swinging sword of hops!"

Tap. Dark black pour, a little lasting head and frothy lacing with an aroma of roasty dark malt & spicy hops. Flavor is also nice roasty malt, very hoppy & oaky and a liitle dry on the finish. I dig it, hope this becomes a regular offering.

Tap at Happy Gnome. Deep red brown with no head. Strong malty aroma with a little caramel, fruity hops, strawberry, and leather. Taste is mostly sweet with a subtle bitter finish. Body is lighter with a watery feel. Excited to have found this beer since the Amon Amarth show sold out. Mellower than Furious, another good beer from Surly.

Deep brown body with a khaki head. Slightly musty with caramel and dough. Hints of yeast and milk chocolate. The taste is cola and dark chocolate. There is a subtle roast. Well done and very smooth. Thanks CanIHave4Beers. On tap at el Bait Shop.

On tap at Muddy Pig, nice black pour with a tan head. First aroma is plastic, nasty, let it sit for a while. As it warms the oak starts to shine through, bit of chocolate and nice hop presence. Taste is creamy chocolate piney bitterness, this is great! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
