Bottle at WTF V. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is oak, bourbon, dark fruit. Medium body, strong oak tannins, dark fruit, leather, vinegar, very good. phranq (250) - - JUL 20, 2017
Red wine grape soda in the nose. Taste is sweet and sour. Finish is nice and smooth. Dfonorow (2318) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 20, 2017
On tap @ FoBAB 2016. Pour is hazy brown/red with a medium tan head. Notes of bourbon, red wine, brett, wood chips, and a bit of leather and tobacco. Finish is sour, sweet, and boozy. alexsdad06 (11223) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - NOV 12, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2017 Bottle shared by a friend. Pours a dark cola like brown with a small beige head. The aroma has tart dark fruits, cherry, woody notes, dark caramel, vinous with some funk. The flavor has thick dark caramel, tart black cherry, wood, vinous, hints of bourbon, other dark fruits, some acidity and some funk. The finish gets a bit soft which was somewhat disappointing. Still good.

Bottle. Funky sour awesomeness. Darkish pour with little head. Awesome sour aroma and awesome sourness.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2012 September 15, 2012 on tap at the Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis. Had a muddy like color with a bit of head. Has the tartness with some nice bourbon flavors that mix well, I can’t wait to try the Five again and re-rate it. Steasy66 (1158) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 19, 2012
Interesting beer. The tartness and malt remain from pentogram but the bourbon barrel ageing adds a strong tobacco and bourbon flavor. Really complex beer. ryanfolty (2655) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - SEP 18, 2012
September 15, 2012 on tap at the Autumn Brew Review in Minneapolis. Dark brown pour with lots of head. Had the same red wine characteristics as the Surly 5 plus throw a little bourbon in the mix with the aroma and taste. Very good, but yet I remember liking the 5 slightly better.
