Poured the color of black cherry Kool-Aid with light tan head.
In the nose you get soft bourbon notes with vanilla and a really outstanding toffee character.
Same with the flavor is this one. Sweet chewy candy notes with vanilla and whiskey.
The palate was really big and soooooooooo chewy.
On tap at GTMW. Poured a clear, garnet-tinted brown with a loose caramel head and big ol’ bubbles. The aroma picked up a hefty sweet vanilla and bourbon presence upfront, melting over a great array of toasted toffee, caramel, and brown sugar sweetness.. soft-ish overall, but oh-so-enticing! This was damn tasty, too!.. bourbon and vanilla again at the forefront with just enough toasty dark fruit and caramel beneath.. accents of mild herbal hoppage and toasted oak chips round it out. Heavier-bodied, but maintained a great balance on the palate.. sweet and warm finish. Great beer! KingpinIPA (841) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 13, 2007
GTMW. Dark color. Smell is like straight bourbon. Can also smell a hint of brown sugar and oak. Taste of bourbon, alcohol, vanillia, oak and a ton of brown sugar. Again very sweet but this one had a lot of bourbon barrel taste to it. 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 12, 2007
GTMW 2007. The beer pours to a lightly hazy dark ruby body with a small light brown head that becomes thin. The aroma is caramelized toffee and bourbon with lots of vanilla. The flavor was much the same. The palate was full bodied and really creamy. I thought the bourbon went well with this one. A very nice beer. tyler_mn (2464) - SLP, Minnesota, USA - AUG 11, 2007
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2007 Draft at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Wow. I literally got goosebumps as I tasted this. The only thing that is lacking is the aroma: It’s good, but there’s almost too much musty wood for me. Lots of sweet malt, though. Pours a rich brown amber with little or no head. Loads of sweet malt on the palate. Some nice, rich, oily hops. Burnt oak. Vanilla, caramel, bourbon and a noticeable alcohol presence. Absolutely mouth coating oily. Quite rich with minimal carbonation. Quite wonderful.
