COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the blackest depths of the brewhouse comes Damien, Child of Darkness. Spawned from the usually discarded remnants of Darkness, Damien is a dry-hopped black ale. Flavors of roasted malt and dark brown sugar suffocated by aromas of tangerine and pine.

Black. Sweet, green pine with molasses and light roast. Brown sugary molasses and sweet pine with faint roast.

Pours very dark brown with lasting chocolate milk head and good lacing. Aroma is very nice, with sweet lactose, dark fruits, roasted malts, chocolate. Taste is lactose milk stout up front, remaining approachable as the hops and carbonation make a dent, a hint of coffee, then finishing sweet and roasty. Overall its light and drinkable. Not bad, not amazing, not quite worth its bomber premium, although it is a full 750mL.

750ml bottle from Windsor Hy-Vee in a Sam Smith pint glass. Smells of milk chocolate, warm milk, plums, raisins, caramel, vanilla, soy sauce and wet earth. Pours the color of new motor oil with two fingers of pillowy head and a trace of carbonation on the sides of the glass. Rich lactic caramel and vanilla up front, followed by medium-roast coffee with a hint of ripe fruit mid-palate and a lingering cafe au lait finish. Astonishingly light- to medium bodied, creamy, slightly sweet and mouth-coating. A fascinating brew. Its not Darkness to be sure, not even something Id say that aspires to be Darkness, but rather something surprisingly light and balanced for a dark beer, with vague hints and traces of the deep rich sinfulness that Darkness is. I like it. I like it a lot. Its certainly a lot cheaper and a lot easier to open than those wax-sealed Darkness bottles. Thanks again Surly!

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2016 Pours a deep, dark black with good-sized head, though one that very quickly dissipates to almost nothing. Aroma is full of coffee and roasted grain. Flavor also has a lot of coffee to it, plus some licorice/anise, dark fruit, roasted grains, and just a bit of hop-pine lingering in the background. Im glad I got a chance to try, but a bit disappointed that it wasnt a bit more awesome.

Bomber. Almost opaque brownish-black pour with massive, foamy beige head, exceptional retention and lace. Nose is roast, coffee, pumpernickel, malt, notably not hoppy at all in the nose (dont see a date so no idea how long this was in the bottle). Mouth is medium bodied, some roasty notes, cocoa, brown sugar, mild bitterness but no hops. More like a porter than anything. Not bad, but not remarkable either. Especially if this is essentially a partigyle from the same mashtun that produces Darkness.

Really freaking good. Upon opening the bottle I aint got with so good fresh hops. Aroma out of the class includes toasted malt. Flavor loses some of the pop character but not too much and what stands out is The Malt and the roasted barley soft texture and super drinkable excellent finish killer beer

On tap at Mikkeller & Friends, march 24th 2016. Black body with a brown head. Aroma of sweet licorice, roast and piney hops. Taste is dry and fresh, roasty with lots of bitterness and a fruity touch. The roast really takes the front seat towards the finish, leading to a bitter mildly fruity aftertaste. Robust one, not the hop juicy stuff many black ipas are, an interesting take on the style.

An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and alcohol, leading to a dry roasted finish.
