Can. Dark orange pour with a beige head that last a lifetime and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Malty, bready aroma is luscious. Then it gets weird. Bitterness is ample but not overpowering. Rye? Spices? Just strange, but overall OK.
Refrigerated 16 oz. aluminum can, canned on May 5, 2015 poured into a glass. Cloudy bronze with medium off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and herbal hops. Held up fairly well for being over a year old. Ungstrup (38547) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAY 12, 2016
An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, hops, and malt, leading to a bitter finish. ARH (1138) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 7, 2016
16 oz can, poured into a shaker. The aroma is a light, bitter herb and caramel mixed with a hint of leather. It pours a clear amber hue with a tan, foam head that exhibits good retention and a light lacing. The taste is a medium bitter and sweet. The oily, thin texture has fizzy carbonation with a medium body. A light floral note starts the flavor palate with a roasted quality, and the finish is sweet caramel with herbs that leaves a mellow floral and herbal aftertaste. Draught at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2015. Hazy copper liquid with medium off-whtie head. Aroma of citrus, fresh hops, grapefruit, grain, jenka and white pepper. Taste is dry and light bitter with notes of citrus, grapefruit and caramel. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice. GTAEgeek (2455) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - NOV 13, 2015
16 oz. can, from the Hy-vee in Osceola, Iowa. Hazy, dark orange, with a big, bubbly, beige head. Nose is caramel apples, brown sugar, orange peel, cardamom, and a bit of rye. Sweet and malty, with a sharp bitterness. Medium to heavy body, grainy and harsh, and a little acidic. This is very aggressive, for an ESB, but still pretty mellow. Good hopping, and relatively complex. Prufrockstar (2259) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - NOV 1, 2015
4-pack of cans, thanks to Bacterial for tracking this down for me. Spent my youth livin’ by the Konami code, so couldn’t let this pass by. Appearance: We pull the copper, with creamy white head, excellent retention and lacing. Nose: deep caramel and toast. Taste: Surprisingly rich and creamy. Malty but not especially sweet; light bitterness. Hops still contribute some spiciness, even though I only sought this out months after its release. Medium+ body, creamy rich texture, average carbonation. Overall: Odd brew to collaborate on, and the beer itself is less exciting than the idea of a Surly Doomtree collaboration, but pretty happy to have a 4-pack regardless.
