Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

My first time drinking Surly. Furious is smooth, not tropical or citrus-like but more of a dank, earthy IPA I suppose. Really well balanced.

Got this via trade at a 4th of July party. Very strong fresh pine on the nose. Probably the strongest IPA nose I’ve had. Dark caramel color in the glass. Lots of hoppiness up front and a good deal of bitterness in the aftertaste. This all sits on top of a solid malty base. This is a pretty good IPA that stands out from the crowded IPA masses.

Tall boy into a pint glass. Pours a reddish brown, with a large khaki head that gradually fades. Minimal lacing. Nose is a pleasant hop aroma. Taste is well-balanced, with a malt backbone able to stand up to the hoppy finish. Nice, well made.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2017 Dark brown color, less hoppy for IPA but still a bit funky. Solid beer

Dark red orange pour with an off-white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, grass, and caramel. Follows the nose. Lingering piney aftertaste. Firm bitterness. Dry finish. Medium light body.

Extra hoppy, surprising malty. Front end seems not as hoppy as the back end.

Nice aroma and caramel color. Light tan head and deep amber caramel. Nice malt backbone and good hop bite. Well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Top 50 IPA? I can’t say it is that.... but it is definitely a legacy IPA standard. Very malty beer on the front. The nose is the most IPA part (though thats a good place for it). Sweet ending with a bitterness that is balanced. Toast carbonation end with a hop bitterness bite. Not bad. But we have surpassed this state of evolution.

Pours a glorious amber. Medium head. Great lacing. Grassy aroma. Slightly malty and medium hop palate. This is a great balanced IPA and more agreeable than Todd the Axeman on the palate. All it’s cracked up to be.

Pours a lovely amber with white head. Big hoppy scent. Taste is caramel malts and bread up front followed by a hop finish. Great balance between the two. Bitterness of aftertaste is a bit much for me.

CacheManyHose (724) - HONG KONG - APR 29, 2017
Pours a clear reddish amber-brown with a very thin white fizzy head. Huge resin bitterness, wet grass, somewhat stony, moderately spicy/rye malt. Body is medium to heavy, bitter, grassy. Big, balanced, quite enjoyable.
