Cask. Oak adds a bit. Really it isnt the greatest of base beers. Still happy to sample it. ryanfolty (2538) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - OCT 27, 2012
Had at darkness day on cask. Like cynic but I really enjoyed the oak taste and flavor. BVery (10327) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - OCT 27, 2012
Cask at Darkness Day 2012. Slight oak element to regular Cynic - very nice modification. Delicious. drowland (8629) - Georgia, USA - AUG 29, 2012
8/11/12. GTMW - on cask. Hazy golden pour with a ring of small off-white head. The aroma shows spicy yeast and fruity esters with some citrus, pepper, and just a touch of oaky woodiness. Slightly sweet bready entry with fruitiness, citrus, followed by a dry spiciness and more yeast presence and just a hint of that oak. Not bad.

Had a nice murky golden color, light banana/clove taste. Pretty light mouth feel, rather smooth.

On cask at GTMW11. Yeasty white yellow pour with a thin head. Yeasty nose of raw hops and that saisonish yeast. Piney bitter earthy flavors. Ok but not enjoyable. 6/3/7/3/14

On tap at the Cask Real Ale tent at the GTMW 2011. Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma of tons of vanilla, toasted oak, mild pale malt and spicy yeast. Flavor focuses on the sweet/spiciness of the yeast in the base beer with a strong rush of oaky vanilla and bitter wood notes. Slick bodied, fun to drink. An Absolutely pleasure to drink from Surly. Cask on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a murky yellowish straw hue, dry and murky. A big frothy eggshellwhite head cakes and laces ok. Aromas are touches of yeast, dry spice, wet oak and bread dough. Some touches of apple, lemon, and pear. Initial is lighter bodied and fruity, apples and pears, touches of wet wood, dry florals and grass. Some touches of spice, white pepper. Backend throws mellow sweeter breads, straw, grass, a touch of vanilla. Nice deeper bitterness. Solid, the oak is lighter, the hops are earthy and floral with lingering sweet bread dough and fruity esters. Drake (13647) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 14, 2011
