COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Taster at ChurchKey. Pours pale gold with little head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, weed, some sweet malts. Taste is orange juice and grapefruit zest with a good balance of malt and hops. Pretty good, but not my favorite Surly.

jandd1983 (4604) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - MAY 9, 2014
Sampled at DLD 2014. It poured a clear copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was of resin and citrus hops. It had a medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. The taste was bittersweet with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Nice.

16 oz can poured a hazy gold with a small lingering white head. Aromas of straw, orange zest, pine, tangerine and light pink grapefruit. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, grapefruit and light pine with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.

Big Citrus, papaya and mango nose. Really well balanced. Big toffee caramel biscuit body, but not overbearing. Citrus, lemon, papaya and pineapple. Well made and solid in all areas. Decent length finish.

TimE (6130) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 9, 2014
Hazy golden amber color. Frothy white head that quickly dissipates. The nose is fairly heady with pine, mandarin oranges with a touch of biscuit malt. Well balanced, but not overly hoppy IPA with modest bitter in the finish. Definitely not a West coast IPA by any means, but rather a well made, well balanced, enjoyable IPA. As it warms up, a malty sweetness creeps in.

bigda83 (879) - Jamestown, New York, USA - MAY 8, 2014
Pours a hazy gold with a big sudsy white head. Aroma of citrus, mainly grapefruit, and some pine and a bit of grass. Taste was a lot of grapefruit and some pine, but also a nice sweetness of caramel mixed in up front. I got a little bitterness on the finish, which was good. Body seemed light to medium with a smooth texture. Well done. #king

Benzai (16687) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - MAY 7, 2014
Sampled @ CBC 2014. Clear golden color, small white head. Nicely hoppy aroma. Taste malts, mainly bitter hops, lightly resin and lightly citrus. I would have liked it to be a little more fruit / fruit hops. Decent IPA though.

3.9
