COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Its been said; "Its easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surlys a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, its just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Can at Jacks farwell tasting, thanks to the man himself, 06/08/13. Lightly hazed folden amber with a decent sized off white head. Nose is bitter hops, tea bags, citrus fruit, bitter grapefruit, pine, dank hops. Taste comprises bitter grapefruit, a good dose of resinous pine, orange pith, caramel, grass. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with aggressive hop bitterness. Cracking IPA.

Excellent west coast ipa by Surly. Very hoppy, but also light. I enjoy the 16 oz can as well. Balanced brew that I will buy again.

Can. Hazy gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma and taste are both piney, resinous and citrusy hops. Very hoppy. Palate is full and rounded with a sharp carb bite at the end. Very tasty but pretty standard take on the west coast style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can thanks to Jack, whom many people consider to be over-rated. It pours clear golden yellow with a medium white head. The nose is juicy pine, passion fruit, orange sherbet, tangerine and mango. The taste is pine, earthy, sherbet, grapefruit, decent bitterness, leaf and some underlying sweetness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste doesnt quite live up to the smell. A touch watery even. Decent enough nonetheless.

0.5l can - a surprise extra from trade with Dan (pandableh) Big thanks! This is a nice blurry kinda golden colored one with a really nice big and lasting off-white head thats lacing nicely down the sides of the glass. Smells really fresh, tropical and fruity. Lots of piney hops, a undertone of almost tarmac and licorice, frozen strawberries, pineapple and tannins. Really like a dipa should be. It wasnt as fresh in the taste as the aroma lead to believe. It has a soft really prickling carbonation level inside a really thick and almost syrupy malty mouthfeel. Lots of piney resinous hops hits the tongue, malty, light melon concentrate with yeast and a little bit of marmalade. Lots of flavors, but still it tastes a little watery? Did not expect that, but to sum up its quite tasty this. Would not mind having again! 13.07.2013

Dark golden color with ample amount of white head. Smells of pine, citrus, bread, grass. An initial honey like sweetness, decent hop bite but not as harsh as I was expecting. A little spicy near the end with some lingering hop bitter on the tongue. Pretty typical IPA, not bad, but a little boring. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can at Bruces in London during Jacks farewell tasting. Pours clear gold with a light, creamy white head. Some drying citrus in the nose, hints of anise, tangerine. Medium sweet flavor, some dry pale malts, tangerine, grapefruit, general pithy citrus. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Mild resinous pine to finish, dry pine needles too, decent bitterness, grapefruit peel, tangerine. Very nice.

Hazy apricot under a trembling white foam. Abundant pine needles and zesty grapefruit rind from the hops dominate any other aromatic subtleties that may be hiding beneath. Lean textured with mostly pale malts and a fresh carbonation, bright and engaging leaning a gently tannic texture. Straightforward hop profile with citrus and piney resins that last yet are never overly agressive. Confident bitterness, generous but fresh and not out of balance compared to the aromas. Possibly not at its freshest state as it appears to be a Spring seasonal, but still quite perfumey from as soon as the can is cracked open. A very honest, simple but efficient, above average IPA that does not stand out, but fills its hopfix role nicely and is something I acn go myself visiting more frequently if it were local.

Can purchased at Connecticut St Liquors in Washington DC July 2013 sampled august 2013. I was looking forward to having this one. Pours lightly hazy orange with a small fizzy white head that remained around the rim of the glass. nose is very citric, total west coast worship here-pine, grapefruit, lite tropical notes, catty, cheese. flavors are a bit more lite than i was expecting, mostly floral and tropical notes with a touch of grapefruit. The beer is almost 2 months old so i bet fresh, it was even better. this is the beer i was expecting with their Furious. There is some lite metallic notes long into the finish with touches of grapefruit, resin and pine. Not a bad IPA by any means. I would love to have it fresh on tap!
