COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Pours a very hazy light copper-orange color with a lot of particles in suspension. The wispy thin white head laces the glass. Citrus aroma. The flavor is balanced with sweet malt, orange, grapefruit, lemon zest, and resinous notes. Medium body and carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel. Finishes dry.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2017 Can. It poured a hazy gold with a frothy white head that left a good amount of lacing. The aroma is citrus - grapefruit and tangerine - with some resinous pine in the taste. It is moderately bitter. Definitely not over rated. Good job Surly!

16 Ounce can at home received in trade. Medium tan head. Orange, bronze, and hazy in color. Not overly hopped, which I liked. Film left on glass. Some hop after taste left on palate. Overall pretty good for style.

Heavy malt, heavy hops, heavy ibus, mod etoh. Smell of an american style barly wine. Certianly big and bold.

Hopmaestro (1720) - Örebro, SWEDEN - JUN 12, 2017
Aroma is light herbal piney with citrus peels and ripe fruits. Taste is sweet fruity and malty with floral notes whispering in the periphery. Mild and slowly growing bitterness in the end building up the taste to a very tasty level. Solid stuff as usual from Surly.

Out of a can. Pours golden tan with white head. Scent is very piney. Flavor is intensely hoppy. A crisp finish leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Minneapolis, Mn - on tap at Surly Brewing. Slight sparkle to the medium golden pour, bubbly white head. Pineapple, spruce, cat urine in the fragrant aroma. Flavor presents some citrus bitterness, a touch of pineapple fruitiness, hint of caramel. Thick rich luxurious mouthfeel.

MaltOne (380) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 14, 2017
Pint Can - Pours butterscotch copper, soft, frothy head. Citrus, slightly sweet aroma, hint of vanilla. Taste - tropical fruit, vanilla, dry finish. Palate is the standout feature... creamy for an APA, balanced, substantial (not heavy), clean, clear, bright. Overall - doesn’t astonish but the balance of tropical and dry, and great palate gets very comfortable, very fast

3.7
kyzr (1593) - Montana, USA - APR 9, 2017
Copper pour with decent white head. Nose of citrus and pine. Flavor is big on grapefruit and orange. Bitter to the end.
