UPDATED: JAN 24, 2009 On tap at FoBAB 5. Poured very deep brown with a dusting and a ring of beige head. Sweet, smoky peat dominated on the aroma with a little toasted oak representin’.. some dark malts (primarily chocolate) were behind, but the smoke prevailed. The flavor had more of the chocolate (and a bit of coffee) than the nose, with more complimentary smoked peat presence.. not much more than a little sourness showed from the oak.. warm with a lightly sour smoky finish. Creamy middle on the palate and medium-bodied.. enjoyed the warm smoky maltage that lasted through the finish. Nice one! 7 3 8 4 15 Tripplebrew (778) - Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA - DEC 15, 2007
On tap at FoBAB as "Cedar Smoke". Poured medium-darker brown with a dusting of tan head. The aroma picked up plenty of smoke upfront giving an old cigar feel.. semi-sweet and darker chocolates on a nicely-roasted base.. well-presented. The flavor had roasty, mostly darker chocolates and vanilla at the core with spicy cedar accents.. finished dry and smoky/ashy. Medium-bodied and drier on the palate with lots of smoke.. great, satisfying flow to it.
The aroma is light. It is pretty light. Not a typical smoked beer. There are no bacon flavors. Roasted malt, chocolate flavor. A medium bodied beer. There was quite a bit of a thick tan head. The beer was very dark. color of used oil. It was a good beer but I was hoping smoked factor would be a little stronger. overall it is a well balanced beer. Pretty strong too. ketchepillar (1208) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - DEC 16, 2007

tap at Maproom....thanks to whoever posted the thread that this was available....an almost black pour with more of a brownness to the edges. thin and fastly disappearing off-white head....aromas of chocolate malt and more of a smoke/char quality that develops as it warms.....flavors of sweet chocolate malt, a small smoky presence that comes into play that i really didn’t get at first. Extreme Beer Fest 2/15/08: As the name suggests, a lot of smoke in the aroma and taste. Also bitterness and roastiness.

Pour from growler shared by Beerlando at Redlight Redlight. Wow. Aroma was fire and peat! Flavor was a bit like a smoked honey ham drizzled with chocolate.... Very unique on my tongue. Cant decide yet if I am a fan! bobbypaulson (217) - Fergus Falls, Minnesota, USA - JUN 26, 2009
on tap. pours black with a white head. The aroma is smokey and chocolate. The taste is huge yet very smooth with a lot of chocolate and vanilla. The beer is very balanced with a great lingering flavor. bvc (1244) - Washington, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Hand bottle. Pours a stills viscous chocolate black. Vanilla, chocolate, coconut, and a touch of cherry pit all wrapped up in a light smokiness. Nice slick and creamy mouth feel. The base Baltic is solid with nice light chocolate and vanilla notes along with some toasted coconut. I do pick up subtle notes from the barrel and a touch of roastiness. Enjoyable, but I would totally welcome some more some flavor. I will try and get a bottle when it is released and may revisit then. Thanks Josh! madmitch76 (26435) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JAN 13, 2010
9th October 2008. GABF. Sweet and malty with a touch of coffee. Just a little smoke. Very palatable!
