FURLYSURIOUS (263) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Poured from 750 to Surly coffee mug, 2011 vintage:
Pours a near pitch black with two fingers of light brown head that lasts a few minutes before receding to a collar that produces some average lacing.
Still a shit load of smoke on the nose. Not nearly is faded as I’d imagined. A bit of dark fruit and woody character as well.
While the nose is still pretty beefy, the smoke has faded considerably on the tongue which is what I was hoping for. various brown ale qualities have surfaced to balance out the aggressive barbecue profile.
Overall, an extremely unique beer. Not my favorite beer from Surly but it definitely showcases their creative potential. BoBoChamp (5755) - Gent, BELGIUM - AUG 18, 2012
75cl, at 8.2%Vol, exclusive American brew, thx to Secret Santa!, complex smoked Porter, smoked/spicy and slightly roasted/sweet, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, small head, very good Winter brew, yet very expensive! TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - SEP 18, 2012
Strong smoked meat smell and taste, very dark pour. Have had it as a sample at beer fests and also out of a few different bottles. Not something I would drink a lot of on my own, but I like the smoked meat flavor. This has a sweetness to it that I rather enjoy. burgy (456) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Not really sure where the smoke elements end up in this brew but it is nice and tasty. Lots of malt and a great palate. peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 29, 2013
’12 bottle. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma is light somke with char and bacon over soft chocolate and sweet malt. Taste is mild smoke over chocolate and a sweet doppelbock type malt profile. Bit mild for a baltic porter but the smoke treatment is nice. Good beer.

Tap at Mikkeller & Friends, Copenhagen. Black with a thin ring of brown head. Aroma of bacon-like smokiness. Strong, malty, molasses-like taste. Smoke doesn’t dominate but fills in around the edges. Sweet and sugary to some extent. Undercurrent of blackcurrant fruitiness. Certainly one of the better smoked beers I’ve had. crajun (1226) - , Texas, USA - DEC 31, 2014
Rate #997. Bomber from trade to glass. Unique beer that got better as it warmed and the more I drank. Slightest of smoke in aroma slight dark fruits and a couple other I couldn’t quite identify. Mouthfeel was a 4. Nice carbonation. Different type of hop slight bitter finish. Taste is aroma and a little bit of roast. Good not great sic1314 (4775) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - MAY 3, 2015

Pours black with an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are salt, smoke, liquorice, and roasted malt - with a slightly bitter finish. martin00sr (4007) - Haderslev, DENMARK - MAY 5, 2015
Tap @CBC15. Clear, very dark brown. Creamy beige head. Meaty smoke aroma. Similar flavor, sweetish with dry and bitter finish.
