Gonna start of with I’ve waited 2+ years for try this beer. Wasn’t made in 2014, 2013 batch was released right before we got Surly in Chicago. Anyway picked this up the day after it hit Chicago for the first time. Canned 9/30/15. So looking at 2.5 weeks old. Well, to get to the point this ranks right near the top of most disappointing beers I’ve tasted. Overly sweet. Almost Amber malt dominates. Has a touch of the sawdust lager yeast I get from a Pilsner. Did they forget to put the hops in? jmohno (1619) - Iowa, USA - OCT 16, 2015
UPDATED: OCT 19, 2015 09-24-15 caned . light gold clear. Nose is sweet pilsner. Slight fruit. Light toast light caramel.Sulfer farts. Taste is soft smooth sweet. Caramel. Sweet fruit. Grapefruit finish.rind. grass. Pine. OK rip off price. $17 4 pack.Really? Pft. Probably needed to be drank on the first week. too sweet. Overpriced, I do appreciate the dedication to the hop to glass ideal but this did not follow through really. Ok , third can I noticed some mint tropical fruit aroma arkurzynski (2427) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 14, 2015
UPDATED: OCT 15, 2015 Clear amber. Nose of syrupy candy malt and piney hops with floral citrus and mild tropical fruit. Flavor is juicy pine, pineapple, and citrus with more syrupy caramel malt. Lingering hops and candy syrup. Good overall raw hop flavor. Re-rate: The more I drink, the more I feel the hop flavor on this falls relatively flat. On tap at Champps Americana in Brookfield. Pale orange pour with little head. Interestingly, lots of streaky lace. Aroma has overlayered hops. Big grapefruit and sweet passionfruit. Dank as anything. Huge simcoe! Taste is of very sweet fruits, with simple syrup, grapefruit, pineapple, some caramel, but it is quite buried. Thick and syrupy. Medium bodied with alcohol. Finishes long and simcoe-y sweet with faint bitterness back. Love the concept of the fresh harvest brews - making it my favorite beer season - and super happy Surly came back to it after a year off. Ultimately, for this one, the simcoe is so overwhelming that it is tough. Fresh = great. This blend, unfortunately, just so-so.14.2

one of the better examples of a fresh hop IPA. nice and crisp with some nice spicy hop notes on the nose and flavor. the hops dominate but some ceral malts give great balance. I know I enjoyed this while out fishing .

Deep gold with large frothy head. Spicy citrus hop aroma. Taste- equally spicy hop and citrusy flavor. Some earthy and perfume notes as well. A smooth caramel malt backbone. Creamy mouthfeel. A great IPA.

2015 Vintage. Gold color with a large head. Pungeant vegetal aroma, with hits of lemon and... pot? Flavor is something like bitter honey. Plenty of raw plant taste. Some astringency. Not as bitter as Abrassive, but north of Furious. Bits of citrus. Largely tastes like drinking a green tea made of very raw plant matter, which I suppose is accurate. This beer is a must try for fresh Hop lovers! Medium bodied with a nice golden yellow color Poured from 16oz tall boy can into tulip glass leaves a nice foamy white head that lasts for a few minutes , sweet after taste is light and malty. Leaves some lacing on the glass. Hops are resiny with citrus lemony grass notes Smooth and very drinkable beer.Amazing finish with this beer! This is one of my favorite beers from surly. This beer is seasonal and only brewed once a year,so if you haven’t tried it yet get your hands on a can today before it’s gone! emusche (209) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 9, 2015
Kicking myself for somehow missing the 100% Citra edition; that woulda been something to try. As for this, pours bright orange, nice head, lacing present throughout the duration of the drink. Aromas of lemon, grapefruit, some almost "wine-like" grape presence, deep dank nose. Taste is citrus, somewhat earthy, sweet with a pleasant bitterness. Very good. It’s a good beer but not my favorite Surly IPA. Clean and hoppy, not too bitter.
