4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2015 2012 edition (rating entered 11-3-15): 16 oz. can, consumed on 11-1-12. The second can I had from a four-pack, and I enjoyed the first one just as much as I did this one. Awesome, hops-centric aroma: Dry, bitter, mineral-y smell featuring citrus, peach, apricot, cracker, and bread scents as well as, yes, cat urine (I dislike that deScription because it can’t help but come off as critical, even though I don’t mean it as such). Very strong and perfect wet-hopped IPA aroma. Pours a clear gold with slow-rising bubbles and a moderate amount of long-lasting, thick, cream-colored head. Produces very good lacing. Sharp, dry, mineral-y, grainy flavor matches the aroma. Lemon, peach, vanilla, and gin and tonic / quinine elements in the taste. Alcohol noticeable in the flavor. Long, dry aftertaste. Easy to drink but filling. Very lively; soft and smooth in the palate. Medium body. Surly Wet 2012 is one of the best beers I’ve had in years. You can’t ask for much more in the style or, really, any style. This beer is well made, highly aromatic and flavorful, and simply excellent! 10/4/9/4/18=>4.5. 2015 edition (rating entered 10-8-15): 10 oz. pour, on tap at Surly Beer Hall in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 10-6-15. Perfect IPA appearance. Hazy bronze with a moderate amount of taupe head. Long-lasting head. Produces good lacing. Awesome aroma. I closed my eyes involuntarily to take it in. Citrus and just a touch of cat urine in the smell. Lemon, orange, and cereal grains scents. I can’t ask for more in aroma. Darn near perfect taste as well. Gorgeous in flavor. Dry and buttery (but not in the form of diacetyl). Tastes like sautéed hops. Medium body. Lively and smooth in the palate. Substantial, dry finish and aftertaste. A bit of lightly floral, sweet brine in an almost Islay Scotch sort of way. Medicinal, dry finish in a good way. Pine flavor. Close to the best beer I’ve ever had and clearly the best IPA I’ve ever had. A masterpiece! Fresh, bitter, and delicious. It’s like the garden, the sea, and a perfectly cooked meal at the same time. The ocean meets the garden in a temperate seaside paradise. What all IPAs should aspire to be. About as close as I’ve come ever to giving a beer a 5. Epicly fantastic. Simultaneously sensually subtle and a flavor bomb. 10/4/10/4/19=>4.7. Combined rating: 10/4/10/4/18=>4.6.
Can. Gold pour with a creamy head. Nice bright citrus nose. Grapefruit meat and lemon peel. Mildly resinous. Flavor is fairly bitter. Light onion. Plenty of juicy citrus meat. Slight woodiness. Fairly restrained malt profile. Active carbonation. Easy drinking considering the ABV. Nice. phaleslu (10239) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 20, 2015
16 oz. can sampled at Mark’s gigantic tasting. Pours a barely cloudy gold with a small white head that fades. Kind of soapy, with citrus peel, pale and cereal malts, straw, and sugars. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, sweet, smooth mouthfeel. It’s fine, but doesn’t leave much of an impression. The other year(s) I’ve had of this worked better for me. tork (17) - - DEC 13, 2015
Love the tart flavored I get with this one. Well balanced, slightly bitter but I enjoy that part. Not my favorite wet hopped beer but definitely up there. commonmac (1245) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 28, 2015
On tap at Bulldog Uptown with commonshawn. Served up in a pint glass. Light orange and golden with a healthy head of a quarter finger in size. Nose is floral with hoppy pine and citrus characteristics. Taste is a slight surprise as it doesn’t carry the signature Surly bitterness. Leans on a really high quality citrus (grapefruit and tangerine) and resin backbone. Very smooth and easy to drink with a light syrup like viscosity. Very well balanced...like Surly used a little restraint for a change. One of the better Surly beers I’ve tried recently. I don’t even want to dry off. commonshawn (1256) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 28, 2015
Tap at bulldog uptown with commonmac. Pint glass. Copper with medium white head and good lacing. Medium hop aroma. Mouthfeel is very smooth, oily, and pleasant. Much less hop bitter punch than I expect from this brewery, which was welcome. Alcohol well hidden. Good balance. This was a very enjoyable beer to drink.

Poured a honey, hazy color with two fingers of off-white, frothy head. Some bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Below average spotty foamy spots of lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled underwhelming hints of lime, pine, Citrus zest, soap, caramel, spicy Simcoe late and some tropical notes. Really not as potent as I would have thought. Reminded me of Surge soda and maybe even some Mountain Dew. (Smell - 3.25)
Tasted better than the nose and different than maybe anything I’ve had before. Got those citrus notes - lime, pine, lemon zest, soap and Surge soda - up front. Also tropical, pineapple, herbal, grass, some tartness, floral and light tangerine rind. Clean and crisp, with the alcohol well hidden (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily, sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This beer really grew on me as it went down. Thankful for Sam hooking me up as always. (Taste - 4.00)

Can thanks to Bursprak. Pours llmost clear golden with a white head. Aroma of herby hops, some plenty notes and some pine. Also some citrus notes as well. The taste is herby, plenty and has notes of dry pine. Also some grassy notes and some citrus. Okay, but pretty one-sided in some areas. Hoprider (675) - DENMARK - NOV 15, 2015
Clear golden, light off white head. The nose is light fruity with spicy hops similar to a hoppy pilsner. A little flowery sesnsation too. Taste : full hoppy flavours, some fruity, some light dank notes with a good lightly malty body. Full mouthfeel. A nice, only slightly bitter aftertaste.

Nice crisp mouthfeel.
A very good wet hopped beer - the price is a bit steep though.
