12oz bottle, no date, poured into glass mug from Coney Island Brewing. Dark brown color but looks black. Head is small but retention is long, sticks around. Aroma is clean earthiness with light roast. Most importantly clean yet full. Flavor is mineral sprtiz lagering with just a very light roast at the end of the flavor. Full yet delightful tingly on the palate. Superbly done, its nice to have such a well made schwarz available in my area. Looking forward to having my Full Sail Black Lager replacement. beerbomb (230) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 8, 2015
UPDATED: APR 15, 2015 aroma has a slightly skunky, grassy middle of the road pilsner character with some bread and cocoa in the background. flavor is simple and quite nice with mild pilsner qualities up front and a toasty chocolate background-flavors seem to come in stages-very clean and compact palate-bitter side of the hops washes out some of the toastiness though-overall, does what its supposed to...good flavor for a lighter beer 60minuteman (1765) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 12, 2015
Appearance is dark. Vanishing off-white head. Aroma is grass, roast, hops, malt. Taste is same. Body is full and roastiness is char - level. AirForceHops (7702) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 9, 2015
Draft in Newtown, PA. Black color, thin white head. Aroma is mild chocolate, burnt grain and Saaz hops. Flavor shows an abundance of lingering Saaz hop bitterness that gives a dry texture. Simple and easy to drink and tries to be like the better German examples but... Really isn’t. dmac (6438) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - NOV 1, 2014
12oz bottle from Xroads. Poured a deep dark blackish/brown center with super deep reddish/brown edges under a larger foamy super light beige head. Aroma is sort of weak, light dusty chocolate, touch of grains, dry grassy hops. Thinner almost watery body with average carbonation, quicker fading aftertaste. Flavof of dark breads, medium toast, light earthiness, touch of dirty orange rind. Meh, okay but nothing to write home about.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a khaki head. The aroma is malty with some black cherry, hints of sweet cocoa and root beer. The flavor is dark toasted bread, spicy hops and more hints of caramel and black cherry. Nice dry finish. This seems like a pretty good example of a Schwarzbier to me. Another good beer from these guys. Braudog (6804) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - OCT 2, 2014
Bottle. Interesting chocolate color, with a tan head. There’s almost a little bit of chocolate in the aroma, too. Despite the preamble, this drinks with a tight character, indeed a bit pilsner-y. There is a lurking schwarz-like thing in the the initial whiff and then again in the background, but its a light quaffable thing in the end. Interesting. Bottle to shaker glass. Pours red brown, one finger head, good retention but no lacing. Aroma of chocolate and light licorice. Tastes very sweet. Highly carbonated, thin body, watery mouth feel. Finishes sweet with sour off notes. Not very good. Ratman197 (15224) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - SEP 3, 2014
Bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, earthiness and light licorice. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of roasted malt and cocoa with a smooth lingering cocoa finish. N3lson1 (1005) - Long Valley, New Jersey, USA - JUL 10, 2014
Twelve ounce bottle, drank from a pint glass. Pours a dark, chocolatey color. The head is lacey with a carmel color. Aromas of chocolate and malts. I wish this beer tasted as good as it smells and looks! Looks super delicious but tastes like a pilsner ultra light... Malt-water...
