8 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. The aroma has floral hops, but they are seemingly dominated by some caramel malt sweetness. The nose is really malty, and is more reminiscent of a red ale than an IPA. Transparent copper-amber body with a frothy off-yellowish head. Starts chewy and malty with some caramel hints. A little sweet and toasty in the middle. I also get a little underly chocolate maltiness. Finishes a little floral and scantly bitter. Mouthfeel is a little chalky. I’m not a huge fan of this beer being called an IPA. It seems more of a hoppy red ale, than anything else. Difficult beer to judge. If I weren’t expecting an IPA, but a red ale, then this would have scored higher.
