From a 50 cl bottle. Clear chestnut, medium beige head. Toffeish and caramelly aroma with some chocolate, and herbal hops. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi sweet, low bitterness. MichaelAwesome (6519) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - MAR 28, 2013
Bottle shared with McTapps. Easy to drink one even if it´s deep and bit milky in its look and the taste. Malt all the way which is not rocket science but a solid one. jfb (6256) - GERMANY - SEP 14, 2008
(bottle) dark ruby colour, firm tanned head. aroma of roasted malts and herbal hops, with light notes of chocolate. flavour is mostly dark chocolate and roasted malts, light hints of coffee and hops. medium carbonation and body with a light roasted-bitter finish. dwyerpg (6180) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAR 18, 2005

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.

How: Tap at Klub Skorpion, Pilsen, Czech Republic
The look: Very dark amber body with a medium tan head
To me a typical Czech Tmavé (Czech Black Lager) is: Dark malts and barely any roastiness sensation. Some dark fruits flavours (raisins with a little figs, dates and prunes) wrapped in smooth dark caramel (borderline toffee) and a subtle chocolate note. A bit bready. Moderately sweet without much hops presence and only a mild bitterness (voluntary unbalanced it seems). Very smooth body, like a watery cream.
This one: As above but a bit less fruity, a bit more roasted with light cacao notes.
The bottle looks good, but the coloures should be combinded better. There’s not much foam in the glass. The beer starts very vapid, becomes a little bit drier in the middle, but the finish in nearly washy. An average beer. jaghana (6066) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - JUN 2, 2017
Bottle 50cl, a clear brown beer with good head. Nose is on caramel, aroma is on caramel, toasted grain, watery body, blond caramel, touch of diacetyl, almost no hops. erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - SEP 5, 2012
Deep brown body and light tan head. Cacao, pecan nuts, wholewheat bread. Quite smooth, nice mouth feel. Light sweet and roasted. Good balance, none of the expected factory taste. Body is even a bit fatty. Well made, good brewer. (50cl bottle) ganache (5896) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 15, 2006
Bottle. Sweet dark malty aroma with caramel, mild roast and hints of astringent veggie. Dark red-brown with a light brown, frothy and clingy head. Body is thin and a tad sticky. Roast with caramel and a little grit, medium astringent bitterness throughout leading to a dry and toffeeish aftertaste. Some nice hoppy funk in the middle- and endgame. Good balance between sweetness an dbitterness. Flavor is complex and comes in waves. Took me a while to get into this (its charms are subtle), but I do like it quite a bit.
