COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark, hoppy Floridian Dark Ale. This award winning dark ale features a rich smoothness and complex hop profile.

Blackwater Floridian Dark Ale is an American-style Black Ale at the low end of the IPA alcohol range (6.4% ABV), with an abundance of hop flavor and aroma. It represents what we consider to be an improvement on what are being called Black IPAs, or Cascadian Dark Ales, deriving its "darkness" from chocolate wheat malt rather than the bitter roasted barley used in most examples of this new style. The name is derived from Florida’s "Blackwater" rivers, which are dark in tannins from the native oak trees.

Blackwater was created through a collaboration between Head Brewer Craig Birkmaier and Eric Luman, Head Brewer at Jacksonville’s Green Room brewery. It was judged the Best Beer in Florida at the 2011 Best Florida Beer Competition.

Bottle at Cad’s 10yr Shindig, thanks to The Pedro. It pours deep red-brown with a small white head. The nose is fresh pine, resin, red berry, dark fruits, toast and varnish. The taste is bitter-sweet, earthy roast, toast, cocoa, pine, varnish and burnt caramel with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice balance. Solid stuff.

MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 4, 2015
My Bottom Line:
This fluffy Black Pale Ale benefits from floral and fruity notes, making the roasted chestnut and tobacco allusions become even more engaging.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the dark mahogany.
-The mouthfeel is very comfortable, just like their bottled Smoked Porter’s.
-This is quite intricate!
-The resinous hop bitterness balances out the malt and yeast contributions.
-All in all, this is very drinkable.

Bottle.
