Bottle on the Brew Bus during the RBWG 2015 bus tour. Dark brown with off-white head. Aromas of roast, toasty oats. Tastes of big roast, oats, chocolate. Medium body with a dry finish. ajnepple (6622) - Denver, Colorado, USA - SEP 25, 2015
Sampled at Great American Beer Festival 9/24/15. Nice aroma of dark malts, bread and hops. Similar flavor, smooth and pleasant overall. Suttree (6385) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 4, 2013
Thanks to my 2013 Summer Secret Santa for this one! Pours reddish brownish black, with a huge tan head. Spicy, piney aroma, with notes of coffee. Flavor is much more coffee-ish than the aroma suggests, plus some piney flavors mixed in. Some other vague woody notes as it warms. Crisp finish. Really tasty stuff! dmac (6264) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - MAR 13, 2015
750ml bottle from THE Homer321, tanks brau. Poured a super deep brown that appears almost black under a large foamy beige head. Aroma/flavor of lightly burnt toast, medium black coffee, touch of vanilla, chocolate bar, roasted malts. Big body with high carbonation and a lingering aftertaste. decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - NOV 8, 2014
Deep brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is roasted maltiness, coffee, and resiny hops. Flavor is semi sweet malt start with the roastiness coming through. A nice bitter finish, a touch of which I think comes from the malt. Just a touch fizzy at the end but solid @bp

Poured a brown color with aromas of light citrus hops, and some roast. Flavors are the same, meh, this is not my style, and not what I expect from a black IPA, ok beer overall, but will pass on it the next time I see it. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - NOV 18, 2012
Draft at GABF 2012. Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Nose is some coffee, some pine, some mild citrus, and some roasted malts. Flavor follows closely to the nose. Interesting Black IPA overall. BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - OCT 26, 2013

On draft at Cigar City for the Swamp Head Tap Takeover. Pours a thick murky brown with a tan head. Nose is nice malt presence, and some roast, plenty of pine, bitter citrus, and earthy herbacious hops. Flavor is nice amount is malt, some coffee-esque flavor, and fair amounts of hops. Medium-bodied and a nice black IPA.
Dark black in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice Dark ale aroma and light finish. I was impressed with the aroma more than the flavor. This was a decent dark ale attempt. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 11, 2012
Big thanks to G311 for sharing this one. Served in a mini tulip.
Pours a very dark brown color with a nice off-white head and a good bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries a good dosage of pine and light roast plus faint citrus in the background. Flavor is also roasty with a nice hop component. Light-medium body and good carbonation. Very solid.

From an old note. No idea where I tried it. swamphead blackwater - nice - more ipaish - pine, reasony, grapefruit- very drinkable - less of the harsh malty from most bipa’s, 7.6
