Hoggetowne Irish Red is a traditional Irish Ale brewed with the finest English malts and hops. This beer was developed through a collaboration with the Hogtown Brewers - Gainesvilles American Homebrewers Association recognized homebrew club. The Hogtown Brewers serve the Irish Red along with other Swamp Head beers at the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire, a Renaissance Faire held each year during the last weekend in January and first weekend in February. Thanks to the outstanding reception of Hoggetowne Irish Red, it is now served by better craft beer bars and restaurants through St. Patricks day. Hoggetowne Irish Red has a medium light body, with moderate malt aroma and 6.5% alcohol by volume. It is deep amber in color due to the use of roasted barley; it features low hop aroma, with almost no hop flavor. Hoggetowne Irish Red is an easy drinking ale with a clean caramel malt flavor and a hint of roasted grain.

Draft... Pours mostly clear and dark with a burnt-orange hue and a small, fleeting, white head. The nose is toasty, grainy and a hint vinous, featuring sherry or port with a hint of caramel. Full-bodied-bodied with kicked-back carbonation. The malty flavor features a collection of caramel, toasted malt, milk chocolate and a modest measure of minerally bitterness. Fairly hearty and packed with flavor, yet refreshing at the same time. This is the style of beer that lured me from pale lagers and malt liquors to craft beers. In 1992, this malty style, along with dry stouts, amber lagers and brown ales, was about as bold and flavorful as it got in my part of the country.

I-75 and Swamphead are the only worthwhile things to come out of Hoggetown. Misty bronze-brown, thin ivory head. Muted malt aroma with some peat and wood. Toasted malt, moderately sweet, lightly acidic, low bittering. Stray cherry tones, and a marshmallow or vanilla extract wants to emerge but doesnt quite break the waterline. Sweetish finish. Easy drinking. Ill have to try this again, I may have had a little palate shock after a Victory Storm King. On tap, Brass Tap Midtown.

Im not normally a fan of Irish Red beers, but this one is really good. Light roast. Lightly hopped.

on tap @ Swamp Head / Gainesville FL --- Clear bright dark amber color, white head cover, dots and blobs of lace. Taste is clean malt with a little caramel that adds light hops as it moves through the palate, allowing a little malt to return on the finish. A really nice sessionable brown ale.

On tap at the brewery. Pours hazy dark reddish orange with a small creamy white head on top. Big sweet malt aroma, some cherry, and some earthy grass in the background, but mostly sweet. Flavor is sweet malts and cherry up front as in the aroma, them fades to a surprising burst of earthy and grassy hops on the back end. A lingering dirtying finish on this, but an otherwise drinkable brew. Medium bodied and somewhat slick with carbonation on the low-medium end. Pretty smooth and interesting.

On tap at swamp head, poured an amber color with aromas of caramel, earth, and a kiss of citrus. Flavors were all caramel, and earth, meh.

Draft during CBC. Amber red pour with a small off-white head. Light caramel, some earthiness, a bit of an off aspect. Not bad.

Pours a clear copper on tap with thin off-white ring of bubbly head. Aroma is red caramel malt and a nice earthy hop back. Taste follows slightly bitter but more sweet make at the end. This could have been better.

Tap at Black Squirrel for CBC. Pours a low haze red to amber. Weaker foam. Nose is gummy candies, sweet maple, but something like vinegar. Odd. Taste is cherry juice box, very bland overall, mild sugar. Not much to it. Suddy, weaker body. No hop content.
