Very catfoody, makes me think of the smell in a brewery on brewday, which is not very pleasant to me, the spent grain flavor isn’t one I want in my beer. Light cognac notes. Hard to drink more than a couple oz of, has some ok stuff maybe going on but another SH disappointment for me.

Gold/orange pour and AWFUL. Just terrible. Harsh as fuck. Bitterness, odd vegetal/herbal notes. What an awful beer.

Tampa Wkly Gathering @burg326s-12.7oz bottle shared by Adam-thin white-hazy gold. A-harsh, lt/med malt. T-harsh bite. Infected.

Poured a copper amber color with aromas of cognac, tart caramel, sourness, and light malt. Flavors were cognac, and offensive tartness, weird flavors, not good, infected, can’t finish.

Amber pour, creamy white head. Malty, caramel, sweet, boozy, sweet , sorta of tart. Tart, caramel sweet flavor.

750 ml Knighted in 2012 bottle from BMMillsy. Slight gusher but my glass was right next to the bottle so I lost maybe a half ounce. Nose was immediate cognac, a funky tart note with some toffee, and light vanilla (infected is suspected but not undrinkable). Clear amber with a big beige head. Flavor is lightly tart with apple , and vegetal notes.

Bottle... Copper... Thin white head... Soft creamy toffee malt nose... Rich sweet malts... Massive diacital...

Pour came out a little flat. Almost no head. Cloudy Amber Brown color. Malt, cognac, molasses and sugary aroma. Thick body. Not infected like bmillsey’s batch. I get a hunt of cinnamon, barley, malts, sugar, molasses. Bottle is too big for me to finish alone. I’m getting light notes of licorice, vanilla, and possibly cherry. Full of complex flavors

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2014 RATE #1,000!!! Woot! saved a local brewery bottle for this one. 2013 Bottle ("Knighted in 2012") thanks to HonusWagner saving the day when I was out of town. Gets me 1 beer away from tying Markwise for top rater of SH brews. Pours a murky brownish amber color with a one finger off white head that looks very creamy. The aroma: uh oh. This might be infected. It has a sour apple and cherry aroma like a very nice sour red/brown. For an English barleywine...not right. Flavor follows the smell closely. Sour apple flavor with some hefty booze in the background from the cognac barrels. Some other fruits and a hint of toffee. Mouthfeel is slick and pretty heavy, but with some spritzy carbonation to go along. This is so far off style I can’t even begin to describe my confusion. But it is actually decently tasty. I don’t know how to rate this. If they told me this was a sour brown, I’d give it a mid-to-high 3 score. As a barleywine? In the 1’s. Spliting the difference for now. I think I’ll stop by Swamp Head tomorrow to see if they know about this issue or if this was the intended flavor. Revisiting this after capping for a day and letting it hang out in the fridge. Less carbonation of course this time around. Still a bit of a sour aroma with some cognac and figs in there. Sweet with some figs and bready malt, liquor bite, sweet molasses. Still a bit of a lingering sour kick left in the palate. In any case, the flavor is lacking and falls a bit flat beside the bit of sourness. Not their best effort by any means, hopefully they work out the kinks next year. When I mentioned it at the brewery I was told, "Sometimes you get funky flavors because this is barrel aged. That’s how it goes." Whatever.

Tallahassee, Fl - Sampled at Proof - 22 ox bomber brought by Jason - thanks! Medium copper pour, medium thick khaki colored head. Aroma has some figs and dates and a hint of cognac. Flavor presents some molasses, a touch of cognac, a hint of licorice and some greeniness in the back end. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Good winter warmer.
