UPDATED: JUN 22, 2013 On tap at Satchel’s in Gainesville. Poured in a plastic cup...oh well.
I tend to like roasty stouts a bit more than syrupy and sweet and this one hit it on the nose. Very strong roasted coffee aroma. More carbonated than other stouts. Mild sweetness balances with the roasted coffee. Goes down easy, which is expected given the 5% alcohol.
A great stout in cold or warm weather. I’m beginning to really like Swamp Head, and will have to make a visit there soon. youdictategood (467) - Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2013
On tap. Big black pour with a small khaki head. Fair amount of lacing. Heavy coffee aroma with some chocolate and malts. Flavor follows - much less sweet than a lot of oatmeals, just nicely bitter black coffee and a little hint of molasses in the back. Only complaint is that it’s pretty thin for a stout with "oil" in the title. Very good though. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JAN 1, 2015
Had from draft into growler. Pours a dark brown almost black color with tan head. Coffee, roasted malt, cocoa, and some oats on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more lightly roasted coffee bean flavor. jjuf1853 (1302) - Land O Lakes, Florida, USA - MAY 26, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2011 Growler from Swamp Head brewery (Gainesville, FL). Pours a near black color with a dark tan head. Roasted malt, coffee, licorice, and dark chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Nice bitterness in the finish. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 27, 2012
Tap at Miccosukee Root Cellar in Tallahassee FL. Pours deeper near black. Medium, rockier coffee head. Webby lacing. Nose is rich coffee and dark chocolate. No off character. Taste is roasty, quite rich, super heavy espresso and dark chocolate. Very good. Rich but drinkable. Lighter palate than its peers with no wateriness. Quite a feat. Much better than first batches I tried a few years ago before they had distribution.
