3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle share at Proof courtesy of scotchzi. Very deep brown with some tna head. Great smokey aroma. Smells like overly smoked pork. Cedar and maybe chestnut. Taste is far too smokey. I’m rarely a fan of American smoked beers. Smoke dominates the palate in this one. Good body and surprisingly high carbonation.

Thanks to the generous person who give me this a few years ago. I found it lurking in the cellar and opened the New Year with it. The experience shows signs of slipping although at its core a fine smoked beer still lurks.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge billowing head takes an exceptionally long time to fold in on itself. The sticky black base that remains glues itself the sides of the glass. Strongly smoked bacon pushes forwards like a vanguard. Behind it comes waves of coffee and malt. It smells like a hearty weekend breakfast.
Flavor / Palate - Heavy smoked bacon or slices of hickory ham bind to the tongue almost immediately. If smoky beers aren’t your thing do not even bother taking a sip. The dry maltiness then carries to a clean fluid finish. It was disappointing when the bottle was empty; this gem from an unexpected source almost hits a home run. I will have to add Swamp Head to the list of breweries to try if I am ever in the area.
Poured at Huna day 15. Opaque brown with a lighter brown head. Smokey, almost meaty, roasted malt, toasted dark bread, worcestershire sauce. Chewy and substantial. douglas88 (9501) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 27, 2015
750 ml bottle. Pours a almost black color with a large beige head. A big fruity nose, interesting deep musty almost note, I think this is alderwood. The flavor is huge dark fruit, umami, woody, sweet almost BBQ sauce element, yeast, more dark fruit essence. Very good, more of a porter with the smoke not being the only or even dominant flavor at times. As such, it is damn good. Drake (14032) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 25, 2014
750 mL bottle courtesy of Secret Santa shared at the 21st Richmond Gathering, 11/1/14. Pours a hazy thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of strong smoke, caramel, leather, mild fruits. The taste is tart berries, smoke, peaches, caramel. Medium bodied, good balance. Nice beer. Homer321 (5142) - Melboring, Florida, USA - NOV 22, 2014
Draft at brewery. Dark brown to black in color. Large tan colored head. Aroma is bar b q and campfire. Not quite to the point of meat drippings and bacon like schlenkerla. Taste is similar with a complimentary chocolate component. Semisweet but not too heavy. Very nice.

GABF 2014. Almost black. Well roasted malt and grain flavors; not sweet at all. Smoke in the aroma and the flavor; which is done reasonably well. Good. obguthr (6525) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - NOV 1, 2014
Smoke, charred meat aroma. Mahogany, medium tan head. Smoke, meat, currants. Fizzy. Too tart, but nice smoke flavor and aroma. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - NOV 1, 2014
