UXO (1896) - CANADA - MAY 24, 2017
Appearance: slightly hazy pale amber with one finger of creamy ivory head that retains well, well-defined lacing. (4/5) Aroma: stone fruit, caramel, citrus, tropical and dried fruit. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry short mild bitter finish. (3/5) A little meh-tastic. Slightly dull hops donít really rise above the somewhat doughy caramel malt. Possible itís old, I suppose, because thereís no BB on the can. (sigh) Nothing special. 12oz can from Homer. Poured a murky deep orange with a small foamy off white head. Aroma of rotting citrus, grains, marmalade, crusts. Flavor green citrus, grains, crusts. Medium to fuller mouthfeel with small bubbly carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste.

2015 BJCP Category: 18B American Pale Ale

AROMA: Strong hop aroma with citrus, green tea and grassy scents. A hint of sweetness like juice concentrate. Low clean malt presence. Clean, bright bouquet. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Hazy shade of copper/pale orange. Large off-white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Assertive bitterness up front and throughout most of the presentation. Light spice/grassy flavor on the first half with some bitter citrus pith. Somewhat dank resin character on the backend. Some juicy taste and moderate sweetness akin to O.J. or green tea. Amber malt base creates for sweetness which is mostly noticeable on the finish. Perhaps a bit too bitter for the style, but otherwise to-spec. 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Crisp texture and high bitterness makes me cluck my tongue. Aftertaste is a bit astringent. Feels heavier than 5.6% ABV, but still quite quaffable. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Could probably pass as an IPA, but still true to style for an APA. Plenty to enjoy here. 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 43/50

Might have been a decent beer if it didnít have a pervasive butter aroma and taste. But it did. drain pour.

SpringsLicker (3612) - Tennessee, USA - JUL 4, 2016
Can from Publix. Hazy dark orange with an average white head. Light aroma. Some doughy malt and citrus. Well balanced. Sweet malts and bitter hop flavors play back and forth.

Light Amber with good head. Good buiscity malts followed by citrus hops and a nice dry finish. A lighter APA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Swamp Head. Slightly hazed orange pour with a white head. Some bready malt along with a big dose of zesty orange, some lemon, and canned peaches. Nicely sweet without being too much, though itís kind of still on the caramel side rather than more bready, like Iíd prefer. Hints of dried pineapple on the finish.

FlandersNed (395) - , Indiana, USA - NOV 12, 2015
12oz can. Cloudy dark pumpkin color with a nice beige head. Dulled hops & a lightly sweet, earthy, old orange & wood flavor. Tasted more like an English pale ale than an Anerican one. Likely old, but it had no best by date. Medium+ body and medium- carbonation.

changeup45 (1731) - Lake Mary, Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2015
Draft at Maggieís Attic. Rusty gold colored with a thin head on top that yields spots of lacing. The aroma is a bit floral with citrus hops and a toasted character. Thereís a crispness to the flavors of toasted malt, caramel, and citrus hops. Easy-going and refreshing. Borderline thin. Pretty unexciting overall but a solid beer Iíd have no problem going back to.
