Pours a very cloudy, dark orange in color with a thin white head. The aroma consists of sugar, floral hops, orange, caramel, some alcohol, and milder herbal hops. The taste initially brings candy to mind. Its sweet, but not sweet enough to mask the taste of alcohol. In addition to the booze, I get the flavors of toffee, spice, vanilla, raisin, and apple, lesser herbal hops, and mild orange. The aftertaste is strong and short sweet toffee. Its medium in body, with a smooth texture, and is average in carbonation. This is another offering that I would have enjoyed much more if it wasn’t so sweet. Cokemonkey11 (846) - - OCT 30, 2016
7oz, bungalow, Kyoto, Japan. Pours medium amber with a medium tan rose foam subsiding slowly. Scent is rose petal or some other floral notes. Taste is medium dense barleywine with some notes of wood. Smooth. Great. KansaiBeerLvrs (5097) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 27, 2016
On tap at Bungalow it pours a dense milky orange brown with a beige head and an intensely fruity citrus and sweet bread pudding aroma.
Medium to full bodied and velvety smooth. This beer melds bold citrus, bitter pine and rich bread and grains with graham, honey and fruit.
I’m glad I got to try the original version that gave birth to the barrel aged one. A solid beer that matches this beautiful cool Fall day perfectly. It lost points for looks. TimE (5793) - Tokyo, JAPAN - SEP 10, 2016
2014 version on tap at Swan Lake Pub Tete. Hazy brown color. Initially its a Sweet malty nose with apricots and citrusy notes, but some strong hops underneath that. . Candied fruit and grapefruit notes dominate the mouth. Fairly boozy, even two years into. I mean very boozy. Not the most complex brew in the world. Not bad but nothing special. monk191 (1959) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 10, 2016
A very good, unique barleywine. Pours a bright, cloudy unfiltered orange with a white head. Smells awesome, of candied orange. Taste is thick, unfiltered, a barleywine base but almost more farmhouse taste, with a triples complexity. Lots of orange, vanilla and barleywine backing. Had in the bottle.

33cl bottle. Hazed dirty amber pour. Aroma is papery oxidation, rice cakes, and caramel. Flavor is decent. A minty oxidized barleywine, has a lto of carb. But its okay. Similar to a JW Lees. willisread (3293) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 14, 2016
Tap at Pub Edo. Light grapefruit and mild tropical nose with heavy malt. Almost candy sugar sweetness with a heavy and full body. Quite boozy and over the top. Really unbalanced with some light fruit as it warms. Meh. jredmond (8204) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 9, 2016
Bottle shared with Scarlett on Christmas Day 2015. Pours a deep amber body with no head. Nose is sweet malt and barley. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with notes of sweet sugar, caramel malt and barley. Generic, bland and a bit of a miss. douglas88 (9058) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 28, 2015
12 ounce bottle from John’s. Pours a mostly clear bright orange color with a medium white head. A big sweet nose, pale malts, some toffee. Light citrus, oranges, yeasty dry at times, more pale malts, a bit of oxidation- who knows how old this is. A decent very English style BW. Enjoyable.
