This batch of Orkney Porter has been patiently aged for 18 months in Isle of Arran Bere whisky barrels.
The spirit previously contained in the casks was distilled with the ancient bere barley. Grown here, on blustery Orksney, ths hardy variety is probably one of the oldest cultivted cereals in the world.

Bottled 330ml (Alko web)
Dark ruby colour, small steady beige head. Toasted, a bit peaty, whisky aroma. Medium-bodied. Chocolate, toasted malty, smooth palate. Some vanilla sweetness. Some whisky backing the nicely balanced porter. Doesn't show its 10.5%. Delicious. Not so robust but nice.

Bottle 330ml. @ The Chris and Ruth's House, London.

[ As Swannay Barrel Aged Orkney Porter (Isle of Arran) ].
Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, sweet chocolate, vanilla, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, vanilla, chocolate, whisky, dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20170804]

Bottle as a gift from Helsinki; had it already a while ago. Batch #2; BB Feb 2019. Peaty roasty character with a strong sweet undertone. Soft on the palate with soft carbo and warming finish. Very nice but kinda underwhelming... Better overall than in parts.

Hikeg (311) - - JAN 23, 2018
Pours brown with small fully diminishing beige head. Aroma is chocolate, cocoa, licorice, brown sugar, bit of resin, hint of banana. Medium sweet, low bitter, moderate acidic. OIly texture, average carbonation, medium to full body. Sweet and simple.

Bottle from a trade. Many thanks GlasgowTad! Dark brown/black colour, beige foam. Very complex nose of roasted malts, dried fruit, plums, raisins, caramel. Fruity sweetness along with subtle whisky notes. Note very thick body but very drinkable and subtle. Complex and not too boozy. Wow, really nice beer!

330ml bottle from Alko. Pours deep dark brown, almost black with a smooth head. Lovely aroma of whisky, oak, roasty malts, wood, hints of peat, toffee, vanilla and chocolate. Taste is smooth, sweetish and heavy with oaky whisky notes, wood, hints of peat, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, coffee and roastiness. Finish is sweetish, slightly roasty and earthy with loads of oak, wood, whisky, toffee, vanilla and hints of peatiness. Quite nicely balanced and tasty.

humpah (416) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - JAN 6, 2018
0,33l bottle from Alko, pouring almost black color. Aroma of sweet roasted maltiness, whiskey, caramel, dark fruits, sugar, vanilla, sweetness, licorice and slight alcohol. Not extremely roasted for a porter, medium+ body, some bitterness to balance. Ending is a bit roasted sweet. Smooth, reminds a bit of a oatmeal stout. Great rich sweet porter, not extremely roasted or bitter, but doesn't get alcoholy at all so the balance is really nice at all times.

aroma has a nice combination of all kinds of stuff i cant really differentiate, just is pleasant. Black beer, head could be better. Taste is medium sweetness, light bitterness, light alcohol. Medium body, slick. A bit of sweetness on the aftertaste. This is a nice barrel aged porter, i like it, but not really tasting the greatness in this.

thmsboyd (224) - Ayr, SCOTLAND - JAN 2, 2018
330mL bottle BBE: Oct 2017. Served in a tulip glass @ 16ºC. Pours a deep, dark brown with a tawny amber hue. Medium-small, sandy brown head that quickly recedes to a crown. Medium-high intensity nose full of fruit and roast character, with wood notes in the background. Sweet liquorice, brambles and raisins. Banana emerging late on. Very sweet to taste yet still not cloying, there's a dry oak and mild roasted bitterness that keeps everything in check without being acrid or ashy. Full-bodied and sticky (almost syrupy), medium-low carbonation, and lingering finish of raisins with a hint of oak. This doesn't scream 'cask-aged', yet clearly benefits from the time it's been laid down. Unclear whether time in the bottle has helped, but either way this is a stunning beer.

Tide (4747) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 30, 2017

Good beer. Excellent balance. Very nice and smooth flavour and aroma of whisky barrel (batch #2). One of the best beers from Scotland I have tasted so far, excluding Brewdog beers.
