3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted on 6/18/13 from a 650mL capped bottle purchased at Midtown. Pours dark auburn with a thick beige head that slowly recedes to average but messy lace. The nose is pretty tame with some nice caramel bread malt, and a bit of green hops underlying, but with none of it terribly intense. The flavor is the same, very nicely melded caramel malt and some raison with some nice hoppiness, but fairly tame. The body is very full with average, but very smooth carbonation and a long lightly hoppy finish.
Bomber. Pours a reddish brow with a tan head and aroma of fruits and toffee. Taste is fruity, with wheat and hop notes along with malt, toffee, and caramel into the finish. jjgmd (2164) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAY 22, 2016

Bottle. Pour a dark amber with large creamy off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong wheat, roast, burnt toast. Thin mouth, very boozy, candy sugar, caramel, toffee, sweet finish, good.

Pours thick syrupy reddish amber with a small partial ring of beige. Aroma and flavor bring smooth sweet caramel candy apple but not cutting or resiny, really smooth after a few years in the cellar. The creamy caramel bar flavor sits so well on the palate. LinusStick (3462) - Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 14, 2014
Got this courtesy of my summer Secret Santa. Thanks. Decent beer. Awesome aroma rich and thick with caramel filling the nose. Almost like a hot candy apple minus the apple. Pour was a hazy burnt red with a thin tan film for a head. Taste was very subdued. Not the big malt bomb the aroma was suggesting. There is strong malt flavor with a weird spiciness that came out as it warmed. Tartness came out on the sides of the tongue in the finish. Tastes like a 7-8% beer so hides alcohol well. Mild carbonation slowrunner77 (12051) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 11, 2014
"Oddly spicily hopped and malted...lots going on, some working together, some solo, some flavors seemingly pitted againts each other, but what you end with works. Not a lot to compare this too, even in the style. The only real flaw is the abv shows a bit, but it was definitely enjoyed." DenverLogan (1220) - LA, California, USA - JUL 30, 2014
Shared a bottle with friends in a Walt tribute Dec 11, 2013. Pours brown-amber with head and lace. Aroma of caramel and wort. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of wort, sweet malts, powder sugar, bitter chocolate, bitter fruit rind, minerals. Overall big, bold with some cloying sweet notes and bitterness. nimbleprop (8386) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 20, 2014
22oz bottle pours a syrupy, translucent caramel amber with some lacing, white head. Nose is very boozy, brandy, some fortified red wine, a little grappa, some grape preserves, malt, caramel. Flavor is a little better, certainly more balanced, malt, a little wood pulp, orange, a little bananas foster, brown sugar, caramel, a bit of clove, a little bit of jam. Fairly smooth finish for 11% abv. My guess is, this beer is peaking now.
