Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

Ehhhhh. It has an odd kind of blueberry taste. I’m not sure what is appealing about this brew

B+. Pours s cloudy straw color with white head. Can really smell the blueberry

Clear golden-yellow, no head. Aroma of grainy blueberry muffin. Flavor much the same with some crisp strawberries. Blueberries come out in the aftertaste....summery, but nothing special.

$1.80 bottle, Wine Warehouse. Pours very pale golden with only a dusting of a head. Aroma of blueberry, but smells candied and artificial, grasses, and bread. Taste is blueberry wheat. Not bitter, but not really sweet. Not bad.

2015 BJCP Category: 29A Fruit Beer

AROMA: Authentic blueberry aroma. Sweet but not cloying. Some wheat presence. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Golden, mostly clear. White soapy head fades quickly. 1/3

FLAVOR: Familiar blueberry wheat ale palette, though more authentic-tasting than most. Wheat composition is noticeable; slight cracker flavor. Blueberry emerges on finish for sweetness, though slight dry bitterness is also present. Enjoyable for non-fauxness. 14/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light, crisp and refreshing with little to no aftertaste. Ideal summer beer, but should be in a can rather than bottle. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A little more authentic than most fruity wheat beers. Impressive considering the low ABV. Overtly pedestrian but forgivable. 7/10

Pours a hazy golden yellow color. Aromas of wheat bread and berries. Flavor is sweet berry and a little yeasty. Flavor is to sweet for me, didn’t care for this at all.

travita (5006) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 14, 2016
Blueberry oatmeal, fruit, wheat, ok, nothing great. The look is cloudy, thin to no head, deep golden in color. Better than I thought when heard blueberry beer.

jkwalking05 (4740) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 14, 2016
12 oz bottle. Gold with a light haze and a small white head. Aroma is of blueberry, but bread, oats, honey. Taste is of honey, oat cookies, wheat, light banana, and blueberry.

Smells like a blueberry cereal on the nose or maybe a blueberry muffin, but the aroma is not especially intense. Light gold on the color with a dissipating white head. Barely medium bodied, high on drinkability and low on extracurricular flavors. Bready on the palate, clean finish but not super crisp. Very low to non existent bitterness. A very good beer to drink outdoors in the summer, and the aroma does stand out from other beers of this type.

kingaugusta (270) - Georgia, USA - JAN 3, 2016
Pours clear blonde with virtually no head. Nose is modest and all sweet fruit. Flavor is gentle citrus and strawberry with just a hint of grain on the backsid, aaccompanied by blueberry. almost nothing to the finish.
