Sweetwater Blue is a unique lighter style ale enhanced with a hint of fresh blueberry. When you drink this beer take a good whiff first and you’ll smell the blueberry influence, but on the taste it’s extremely subtle and the finish is extra clean. Ain’t no fruit beer, but it is our breakfast beer, usually folks that are looking to quench their thirst or for those that are new to the “good beer” lifestyle; this is their choice. This brew and the ESB were the original two to go through the tanks at SweetWater in February 1997.

Medals: Bronze medal winner at the 1998 World Beer Cup, Fruit Beer category; Always the funky favorite at any outdoor beer festival

Malt: 2 Row, Wheat

Hops: Centenial

bottled - slight blueberry aroma but major blueberry flavor. Color is clear to cloudy golden. A bit artificial tasting.

16 ounce draft at Winking Lizard Pennisula Ohio. Film on glass Not too foamy. Smell the blueberries. Taste nice and smooth. Faint taste of blueberries. Malty Not very hopped. Easy on the palate. Very drinkable and a little higher on overall ratings.

Pours a clear gold body with a small wispy white head. The nose is all blueberry extract with a bit of pale malt. The flavor is much the same, lots of fake tasting blueberry extract with minimal pale malt. Meh. This one rounded out a sampler platter or I wouldn’t have gotten it. Pretty well what you would expect.

Average looking pour. Not as sweet as expected. Rather flat, no lacing. Somewhat lame to tell you the truth. I expected much more from this. On tap.

Cajun (534) - Lafayette, Louisiana, USA - NOV 2, 2016
Bottle - Pours a pale gold with fizzy white head. Aroma of blueberry muffin, blueberry juice. Mild flavors of blueberry bread (pancakes/muffin), juice, mild hops end.

Loose bottle, $1 from Caputo’s. Pale lager color with a pinkish tinge. Smell has blueberry to it of course, but it’s not overly sweet or cloying. Taste is not really much more than an ordinary beer with blueberry flavoring. Nothing bad, just nothing to make it stand out.

I had it on tap. It pours golden with a small, white head. The aroma is blueberry and grain. The taste is the same. It wasn’t overly sweet. This is a decent fruit beer.

ganache (5899) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Bottle best enjoyed by 09/14/16. Nose is straight blueberry jam, sticky-jammy to the point is smells artificial. Hazy golden pour with lots of extra carbonation and a white head that fizzes itself out in about fifteen seconds. Taste lightly tart, very crisp, bready and lightly yeasty finish but not before tripping over cloying blueberry. Some sunny malt and it is clean and refreshing, with something of a mild ginger burn. [2016.08.13: 2.9]

BrewBoxer (2636) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 9, 2016
Bottle. Pours a tannish light color. Taste is crisp, sweet and slightly fruity without overdoing it. Not bad
