Bomber. Pours clear copper brown with a lingering white head. Very nice lacing. Aroma is a floral mixture of hops and fruit. The flavor is a perfect balance of floral and citrus hops with a nice backbone of malt. The alcohol bite is subtle and unassuming but no doubt in attendance. If this is an el dank mistake then let’s toast to the hope that he makes many more. This would undoubtedly compliment a full platter of spicy nachos or hot wings. Bravo to the lads (and ladies) at Sweetwater.
Pours a nice clear amber color. Aromas of citrus and pine hops. Flavors of grapefruit and orange. Nice hop flavor with a spicy edge. jsquire (4425) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - MAY 22, 2015
Burnished gold color out of the howler with a short off white head. Big sweaty hop resin, candied grapefruit and tropical fruit nose. This is a syrupy beer with tons of sticky hops. Candied grapefruit, Mandarin orange juice, canned peaches, pinching hop resin and some wet hop flowers all present themselves in this beer. There is a long, dry hop bitter finish. Very smooth hop head beer. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 18, 2015
4oz on tap at Brass Tap - U Square. Half hazy orange amber color. Thin off-white head, leaving decent splotches of lace. Bready malt, kind of biscuity. Malt-forward, but the malt bill is solid. Some piney, kind of resiny hop beneath the big malt. Bigger sweet taste, lighter bitter. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. An OK, maltier DIPA. Like the Lagunitas Waldo 420 DIPA i just tried before this, it seems to be a bit past it’s prime... But not grossly malty sweet, like the Lagunitas was. This one starts dank and malty. Has a strong malt backbone with a slightly hoppy start. Pours light orange in color with a white head. Had at home out of a bottle.

Straw golden in colour. Very mild herbal aroma. Really, really bitter. Good but not special.

I’m not usually an IPA drinker but this is great. Smell is a little off at first even musty, but the flavor is great. It lives up to its name, most IPA’s are bitter and leave a bad after taste; but sweetwater 420 is really good and refreshing. If this is your first IPA, it might as well be your last. 08/13/13 at Wild Wings, SC. The aroma is a little weak, the appearance was nice but the taste was a little lacking. To me tasted watered down with a little taste of the hops and a sweet after taste. Still a very drinkable beer! radarsock (1190) - Massachusetts, USA - AUG 5, 2012
Been saving a bottle, perhaps for this specific hot, humid New England summer day. Pours a burnt strawed golden into cognac snifter which was two-to-three fingers in length. Immediately I smell from the opened bottle, grass trimmings, wood varnish, grapefruit zest, conifer cones, fried apricot, and booze. Tastes of orange candies, tangerine, hops, sourdough, and plastic. Glad I had the opportunity to try it. mintygood (2) - Alabama, USA - MAR 24, 2012 does not count
What an outstanding beer. Certainly one of my favorites. Very hoppy, grassy, dry taste that no doubt came from the 420 line. It is such a shame that this beer is a one of a kind. It will be missed LtDan (1806) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - MAR 18, 2012
Appearance: Pours a fairly clear yellow gold with white ring of head.
Aroma: Dank grapefruit and grain.
Taste: Spicy dry malt. Grapefruit. Sugar.
Mouthfeel: Rough with carbonation on the high side of medium.
Overall: I was very disappointed with this beer. SweetWater has done some fun and tasty stuff with the Dank Tank series, some of them were what I would be proud to call 420 IPA. I didn’t find the dank I was looking for.
